Yea... if you are running a W6, stick with a 500/1. Now in regards to your amp going out, who installed it?
JL Audio Slash series amplifiers are a bit more complicated in terms of adjustments. Certain adjustments, such as input voltage, are very crucial. I have seen plenty of JL Slash amps go bad in a matter of minutes due to incorrect adjustments.

The installer told me to turn down the gain, and that would solve the problem of the bass "releasing" itself after i turn off my car. I did that, didnt touch ANYTHING else, and BARELY moved it. Within 3 minutes, it started to smoke, sparked, and smelled like it was on fire. I am assuming it is dead. It could have been abused by the previous owner, but who am i to tell? I am not pointing fingers at him, because he was a cool guy. Regardless, i am out an amp. I have JUST bought a new 160gb video ipod, and was planning on going with a DD head unit with no navi, but have yet to find one with the best ipod friendly user face.
So much for not spending much to add bass...

I ended up running an arc audio amp and haven't regretted it! I like JL but it seems like you pay an awful lot for the name. My installer recommended this arc audio amp, said it was designed by a guy named Robert Zeff who apparently use to be the lead designer at Zapco years back. I would definitely recommend looking into their amps; great quality at a fair price - plus no JL tax!

I m nearing a decision on whether to install my audio setup or not and I'm getting worried reading your thread..I was hoping you got it resolved so at least I could have my installer be on the lookout..I dont want to go through what I went through on my 03 G35..kinda up in the air now.

Vin,
I wouldnt worry about it. As long as you have a GOOD installer, everything should be fine. It seems it MIGHT be the grounding, but now that i have a blown amp, i cant tell either way. I am going to keep the sub in, and i am going to upgrade the DD head unit. If you got it all, put it in. You can always tweak a problem, ESPECIALLY if you have a good installer. No worth in holding off, just let him know of the possible problems. Then give me his name so i can get my stuff fixed!

Sooo, talking with my brother and playing with my car today. I have no bass going to my car due to a dead amp. My stations now come in CLEAR as day( a problem when the amp was in) and i have NO problem when turning it up. I think that the amp was going bad, and was struggling to keep up. Therefore it was pulling WAY too much power from the battery. I am going to hook up my brothers kicker 750w tomorrow, and see what happens. If it still acts up, its DEFINATELY the wiring, if not, it was due to a deadbeat amp i bought. Just thought id share some info.
