Auto dimming mirror install?

Anyone out there installed the auto dimming mirror in their non-prem pkg G? I also want to have the Homelink functionality as well.

Looking for purchase options and installation instructions if possible and available.

All help appreciated.

Re: Auto dimming mirror install?

i betcha you can get the rear view mirror in full from your infiniti service department.. they must have replacements, incase one breaks and they need to replace it during warranty period

gonna cost ya though

I'm from canada, and i had the wood trim standard...
to change to titanium, i just bought the pieces from the dealer afterwards (as a replacement) cost me like $400CAN to get the pieces + installation

Hmmm, I wonder if you can buy that stuff from other sources (besides the dealer). It seems logical that you could do so since they are hardly G35 specific parts.

I think I'll look into this since I also bought a non-premium package G35.

Re: Auto dimming mirror install?

A quick google search for "auto dimming mirror" turned up the following link (and many others which were similar):

http://www.rpminnovations.com/rearview_mirrors.htm

As for Homelink, I think you're out of luck. According to their website (http://www.homelink.com/faq/faq.tml) you can't get Homelink installed separately aftermarket - only as a factory installed option.

True, but the G35 does have it as a factory option, so it should be possible to get the factory parts and install them after the fact. Of course, the mirror itself may not contain all the homelink parts, there might be another module that has to be installed somewhere in the car.

Re: Auto dimming mirror install?

From the other website I visit for my Sequoia a lot of members purchase auto dimming mirrors aftermarket and install. Not difficult on the SEQ, but I was wondering about the G; it doesn't seem as though anyone's done it.

Aftermarket mirrors are available from http://www.mitocorp.com/nvsmirro.htm
These come standard on Toyota's, not sure of installation possibilities on Infiniti's

I'm still evaluating if I should do it though, I think my rear tint is dark enough so headlights from behind no longer bother me, but I really miss homelink. I've got my garage/gate opener velcro'ed close to the cigarette lighter by my right knee.

I would pursue that option if not for the reputation of dealers gouging the hell out of you if you try to buy parts from them which weren't already part of your car when you bought it.
