Will Sedan nav screen slot fit a din unit?
Will Sedan nav screen slot fit a din unit?
Will the slot where the OEM nav screen (the one that's a lidded storage compartment) hold a single din unit? I'd like to put a DVD player/screen there. Will it fit with customizations? Any experience would be appreciated.

Yes, it will fit but if you have a sedan with a/c ducts to the rear seat, the "air excanger box'" will have to be modified because the single din unit will not slide down far enough to close the cubbyhole lid. I mounted the Kenwood KVT-911 dvd in mine. See pics.

Thanks for the info. That's exactly what I want to do! Did you do it yourself or did you have a shop do it for you? Does the mod interfere with any air conditioning functionality? Also, looks like you kept the OEM stereo. Do you run your DVD sound through that stereo? How did you do that? FM Modulator or some aux interface? Thanks again!

I had the install done but I have had it out so many times, I think I could do it blindfolded now. They had to modify the air box by shaving off the front of it and fasioning it back. The only thing it did was cut off the air vents that lead to the backseat (the ones mounted in the rear of the console)
I installed a JL500/5 amp as well and connected the new Kenwood to it. I patched the OEM Bose unit into the auxillary input of the Kenwood so i have the best of both worlds and retained use of the steering wheel controls for the Bose unit. The Bose sounds much better run thru the JL amp and new speakers. Here are a few pics with the scrren up and with the cubby closed.

This looks really good. I have a bunch of questions again of course. So does the lid close flush? It looks like the lid doesn't close all the way. Also, when the lid is up, Can the screen open up vertical or perhaps a little tilted back (screen facing up)? Or does the angle of the screen angle down because of the lid? I'm having a local shop do something very similar to your setup so I want to get as much info as possible. Is it possible to not block off the airflow to the rear vents if I moved the unit out a bit and got rid of the lid? Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The lid likes about 1/4 from closing....but it is close enough for me.
The screen comes straight out of the deck so it is more/less facing down. The screen is tilted back so it almost touches the cubby lid. To close the screen I just tilt it forward and it automatically retracts.
If you remove the cubby lid and do not mount the unit so far down in the pocket, you probably would not have to modify the rear air ducts. Hope this answers some of your questions. If you have any more or comments, let me know.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to talk to my installer about what the best option will be. Maybe cutting a slot in the lid and having the unit sit flush on the outside may be the best way to go. Thanks for all your info!
