Look into the Boston SPG555 ... it is one heck of a sub. It was on the short list of subs I was looking at for my install -- Boston SPG555, IDMAX 10, Hertz ML2500 ... I ended up getting the third option because it is a bit more efficient than the SPG555 (doesn't require as much power), and it seemed to be a bit more accurate. That said, the Boston is in line with the JL W7's (I've actually heard both in sealed enclosures), IMO ... but the 4080 enclosure wouldn't work because of the shape, you would have to make your own enclosure -- not a bad thing.

As for amplifiers, if you're looking for a good quality amp that's really worth the money -- look into Memphis amps. I used to run memphis amps in my old car from 2000 through 2005, and they were incredible. Reason I didn't go back to them is the 5-channel amp I went with really got my attention as far as output. That said, you cannot go wrong with Memphis amps, I personally prefer them versus JL amps (I am not considering the new JL HD amps, as I've never even seen one in person).

Get an Image Dynamics ID or IDQ, the price is excellent and I think they are one of the if not the best sounding subs for the money. Sound quality is awesome, you will not be dissapointed unless you are only looking for a sub that people can hear from down the street.

my budget is like under 800. will one 10w6 be enough? i listen to some rap and i would like to bump once in a while, but i mostly listen to rock, and i would like a clean sounding kick drum. there is a 10' 4080 on ebay for a good price.

if i got a jl sub, would i have to get a 500/1 amp, or is there other amps that get the job done for less money.

redlude did you fiberglass your own box and put it where the 4080 would go, or did you build it out of wood?

Its wood and fiberglass and sits where the 4080 box goes on the driver's side. Does the $800 budget include the 4080 box?

Wanna save some cash? Get a used Soundstream Reference 500sx. Thats what I have. 500watts @ 2 ohms. They can be bought for around $100 or so.

Nope, it will end up costing about the same as the 4080. Better off just buying one if you can't make it yourself. Only reason I did was that I had some free time and I like to DIY things when I have the skills

Bro...i LOVE the w3's!!! they are PERFECT for the G. They don't take up too much room, and sound sooo awesome. They hit super hard with the 500/1 amp. Bro, if your looking for something semi cheaper, get the w3's you will not be disappointed.

i only want one sub, and if i can afford a w3 i probly could afford a w6. but if there that good do you have any deal for the amp and 1 sub?

also for those who have 1 10inch, is that enough bass? specifically to the 10w6 owners.

I actually just comitted to a deal for my amp..Sorry bro. The ten's, i'd let go for 200 for the set...i paid more than that for each of them!!! If you are thinking of getting one single ten, you might as well get a w6. One 10w3 wont make you happy. They aren't DVC like the w6. Just my two pennies.
