My Z1 / Z2 install thread

I am finally going to do it. I've wanted one for a long time, so I'm using my tax return to get a Z2. I'm actually going to buy a Z1 and do the hard drive mod to make it function like a Z2.

I'm sure I'll have 29 questions, so I'll just make one thread. It'll keep me entertained too .

So far, I ordered:

Antenna Adapter, Metra 40-NI11

Wiring plug, Scosche NN03B

LOC, Scosche SLC-4

Steering wheel controler, PAC SWI-PS

At this point, I think all I need is the double-din kit and the radio itself. I'll be getting the XM w/ traffic module too.

I'm about to do this too, just waiting for everything to arrive. It's been long enough using my custom cassette adapter for an MP3 player(yep, years and years living with the CD Error FO)

Although i went with the Metra 70-7551 harness instead of going with the scosche harness and converter

wire harness? it's almost the same as the wiring plug your going to use but it has the RCA jacks/connector to connect the existing bose amp to the low level outputs of the Avic. No converting of the speaker outputs needed.

Looks like this...

So you have to run new RCAs to the trunk? I didn't realize the Bose amp has RCAs, I figured it was some proprietary harness plug.
EDIT: I get it, that plugs into the RCAs on the Avic. OK. That's cool! Wish I thought of it, but I already have the LOC and regular harness coming. The PAC device got here today.

I don't own an IPod, so no. In the future I may end up doing it.

Converts the power coming out of the head unit to the proper power for the Bose amp. This eliminates a "hissing" noise...

i forgot to mention that you have the wrong picture for the SLC-4

and now that you mentioned it, i did remember reading about some people getting a hiss noise from the RCA's on the metra harness...crap!

Fixed! Thanks.

From what I read, the hissing comes from using the speaker outputs (not the RCAs) directly to the Bose amp. Wiring this LOC into it should fix that.
