Highly recommend the Valentine 1

Perhaps the way to avoid doing what you described is to have your settings to display the Expert Meter Mode....it's a setting where once you get a signal/alert, the readout shows all the X, K & Ka band names and beside them, there are bar graphs. Taken from the manual: PASSPORT’s ExpertMeter simultaneously tracks up to 8 radar signals. It provides detailed information on up to 2 Ka-band, 2 K-band, and 4 X-band signals.

So if you have this set up this way, you'll know not to lock out a signal/false alert if there are MULTIPLE alerts...make sense?

Here's another overanalyzation ... can the laser used in your own car's Intelligent Cruise Control set off your own radar detector? I've posed that question on some other threads, but no clear answer has been provided by anyone. Maybe we don't have any G35 owners with the tech package who also use a radar detector. The laser on the ICC is apparently on all the time, even when you don't use the ICC.

I've also heard others with issues with the 9500i locking out real police radar. one of the detector stores I spoke with said that they've had several returns and exchanges for the BEL RX 65 or the 8500 x50. A quiet detector would be nice, but maybe the technology isn't yet mature enough the way Escort does it. The guy doing the frequency sweep seems to know what he's doing and the demonstration is very convincing however. As a previous 8500 owner, I'm very happy with my V-1 and don't think I'd ever go back! Took me about 3 or 4 weeks to get used to it, and it's a steep learning curve and I'm sure it's not for everyone. The Escort is more of a plug it in and go type detector which may be better for the average driver, but I'm convinced that the V-1 is more sensitive and I personally find that the extra information very valuable and quick to interpret. Despite the better sensitivity, it doesn't seem to be much more "noisy" than the 8500 which I'm surprised about. Now with false (non-police radar), alerts, I find that I can better interpret what is actually happening around me!

Here's some further overanalyzation for me about the 9500i. I read some user saying that the 9500i intereferes with his XM satellite radio signal. Any 9500i owner out there can confirm (or deny) this?
I think the V1 is looking more appealing now ... I still need to know if my G35's ICC laser can trigger a radar detector mounted in my G35. Anyone, anyone?

I've heard some use the 9500i in the city they live in to keep things quiet, and the V-1 when they travel.

Here's how the lockout on the 9500i works. It locks out K or X signals at a particular geographical location in 0.030 mhz increments. So for example, for K band, the frequencies range from 24.000 - 24.300 mhz (I think). So let's say that you encounter an automatic door opener at a grocery store on a K band running at 24.100. When you hit lockout, it will lockout anything on that geographical location on K band from 24.085 to 24.115. According to some people, depending on the signal that you are locking out, the size of the geographical lockout area varies. So far, all my lockouts have been less 1/10 of a mile. I'd say typically more like 1/20 of a mile. Now if there is a cop running a radar gun with K band between 24.085 and 24.115, and you are within that geographical lockout radius, the lockout will automatically mute the cop radar. So yes, the 9500i can lockout police radar in a very limited set of circumstances.
However, in the real world, the user would likely get alerted about the police radar way before approaching that 1/10 mile lockout area. That's the case because the police radar is a whole lot stronger than the door opener. So let's assume that the police car is actually parked within that 1/10 mile area and running a radar gun in the same frequency as the door opener. The 9500i user would alert the user about the police radar gun 2/10 mile (or even more) away.
I'm still a noob regarding the 9500i. You can go to a site like radardetector.net and learn lots of stuff there.
I ordered a V1 yesterday, because I am curious to experience the directional arrows. I think the arrows will be good to have to identify the undercover traffic cars that Houston's finests have been using.

I found that it takes a while to get used to the V-1, so give it a couple of weeks, and let us know what you think. So far, I'm loving mine, but there are a few spots where the extra sensitivity of the V-1 can be a little irritating.
I've found that the sensitivity from the rear is way better than my 8500 from the front! So given the sensitivity, extra radar alerts are a given. I'm getting used to reading them now, so I can pretty much figure out what's going on around me, so I'm liking it. Valentine talks about "Situational Awareness", and I'm beginning to figure out what he's talking about.
The thing I like the best is the nice linear way the V-1 ramps up as opposed to the other detectors I've tried. This, along with the extra range makes the V-1 easier to read. The arrows add that much more! As I said before, it's not a plug and play detector and the learning curve is steeper, so for the casual user, I'd say go with Escort or Bel where you just slow down when it beeps and ignorantly look around trying to figure out whether to speed back up again. I don't think I'd go back though.
