How easy is it to install OEM navigation system on an 04'? How much does it go for?

Hi, i was wondering how much a OEM navigation system goes for say used, and are there any differences between the 04 to 05 naviagation? or 06-08? Is it all compatiable?

How hard is it to install? Is it just plugging up harnesses?

Thanks!

expensive, yes, no

no. it has been done before but it required a TON of work. it is much easier to go double din and an aftermarket unit.

Double DIN looks easy and fairly cheap. However, the screen is just so damn low. Is there anyway to have the double din flip the climate controls with the aftermarket unit? That would be ideal.

Get a portable navi. Their a lot cheaper and they work just as good maybe even better. PLus you can transfer it to another car if you need too. I have the Garmin Nuvi and i love it.

The navigation system changed in 05 and then changed again in 06.

In 05 the navigation screen got larger and added power up/down for the screen.

I'm not sure what changed in 06, but it uses different map DVD than earlier years (version 7.x instead of 6.x).

I doubt any of it will mix/match well.

The navigation systems do show up on ebay occasionally. If you do buy one, make sure it comes with the car's main wiring harness (the wiring harness is different in cars with navigation).

There is lots more information over in the Audio, Video, Sat, & Nav forum.

G
unless you really, really want the OEM navi, then i suggest going with the Double DIN modification. aftermarket navis are mostly better than the OEM anyway, unless you're going for a stock look. installing the OEM navi, although it's been done (mentioned above), is very difficult, so much so that to most people it's not worth it. just wanted to emphasize that fact.

Thanks for the info guys! This doesnt scare me!! LOL I'd give it a shot because i think OEM Navi' looks the best than a aftermarket HU but i might have to go with one.... im just scared with the wiring part, the labor part of maybe pulling out the dash and such isnt a big deal. I just HATE wiring!

Read the audio section there is tons of stuff there, I did my 03 navi install and works great. People make it sound harder than it is, if you have the right parts its a breeze. Harness is the main reason why its hard, but if you have the harness or just the navi sub harness your home free. All 03-04 coupes and sedans are the same. 05 is diffrent so is 06. But it has been done on most of the years. I did 03-04, Accordfreak did an 05 and there might be some others.

Good movie, lol but I only spent 4 hrs installing mine. It also cost me only about 400 bux with the gauge cluster. I like the OEM look, and all the messing around with trying to get DD kit, seperate heater controls is PITA for me. If you have the sub harness for the navi or can get it I would do OEm Navi swap over DD.
