Nothing is wrong with JL, I am even using a JL 450/4 as a matter of fact, but just like so many other mainstream brands you are paying a premium for the name and their marketing expense to convince you to purchase their goods. JL is quality stuff, but many others believe (or even proved) that there are cheaper alternatives that provide the same if not better quality. You can pair up different amps and speakers and different people will chose different combos as their favorites. It is all about preference and perception. Buy what you enjoy and pleases your ear. I know people who HATE Dynaudio and others who swear by it. I think the brands that almost everyone does enjoy are Rainbow, Image Dynamics, Diamond, Zapco and DLS. Hit up some boutique stereo shops and take a listen, or better yet listen to the setups people already have to get a true representation of what the system could sound like in your car. Remember, install is about 80% of the quality in any system. Where are you located? I know we have a few of us in SD that range from fully active DLS systems, Polk SR, all JL, and even a Morel and Sea Lotus system.
