Re: Where to mount radar on windshield???

I can see how the tint strip would affect LIDAR detection, but I would think RADAR detection would not be affected as much.

Nevertheless, I mounted my unit with clear sight underneath the tint strip. Since I use a V1, which also has a rear antenna I needed to mount it slightly lower anyway so that it could see out the rear windshield. I put it at rearview mirror level off to the right side (passenger sun-visor use is unaffected).

I'll post some photos later when I get back from my trip to Asia.
Edited by chenga on 04/19/04 10:18 PM.

Chenga, The Passport 8500 has read detection as well. Even at the height I have the detector mounted, I have no problem with rear detection - radar bounces, so most chances you detector will pick it up as it bounces off of just about anything.

MrElussive,

Not a problem. I wish I could shell out a few hundred bucks for a new x50 version myself.

Speedaholic, I didn't mean to say that the Escort didn't have rear detection. The last thing I want to be is a Valentine stooge...

All I wanted to say was that the V1 has a rear antenna, so I was sure to line that up so it could see out the back.

Re: Where to mount radar on windshield???

I have my V1 on driver's side visor (up high where can see/detect in front and behind). Unit is hardwired with fuse tap and phone cord is concealed down to concealed display unit in ashtray. Very easy to hardwire/conceal...saved $250 doing myself.
