can the 8" bose subwoofer in the 03-04 sedans be replaced with an aftermarket subwoofer like a JL 8W7?

I was wondering the same thing... but since its either been discussed to death or the answer is simple nobody has responded. If it has been discussed to death, anyone have the links?

You're not going to get the sound that you want with a free air sub in the back. The best sound will come from an enclosure in the trunk. Why do you think the stock Bose sub sounds weak. Free air FTL.

Thanks for the response. I never even looked to see if the stock sub was enclosed or not. I guess I assumed it did have an enclosure around it. Yea, if it is free air, I'm not gonna bother with trying to put a sub meant for an enclosure in it.

That would be considered an IB (infinite baffle setup). Look into IB capable subs, such as Image Dynamics IDQ. You may need to make the opening larger and you would have to seal things off. By this I mean make sure that the front waves and back waves stay separate. Any holes in the rear deck must be filled so that there is no air that can travel from the trunk into the cabin.

pretty sure bose runs there speakers at odd ohms too... so i would just add a new sub and an amp matched to that sub...
