How much is this worth??? (Double Din Thread)

Zero...Zilch...Nada. Reason being is that I don't have a finisher and until it becomes available this is paper weight.

OK. So I have owned my 2005 G35 Sedan for a year now and I just threw in my custom stereo set up that I had revolving around my stock bose HU. Long story short, the stock HU is not giving a good signal to my audio processor so I have been advised to get an after market HU. My installer said good luck on getting the dash kit and I didn't understand what he meant until last week. Upon the quest for my search for the dash kit I have been greeted with laughter and "if you find it let me know" type of responses from vendors. Grubbs let me know straight out that they don't expect the kit for 6 months and that they can't even find any in Japan. Not good coming from someone who is suppose to be one of the biggest distributors of this kit.

I had partial luck as the controller in the picture was just purchased brand new from Performance Nissan out of Duarte, CA. This piece happened to be the last in their building so I felt fortunate. I know this is almost a meaningless post but just had to vent about the frustration of trying to find this piece. I wish I would have known this sooner as there were just three sold in the last 30 days. Not sure the next time one will be for sale. I check the for sale forums 10 times a day as I know when this thing is posted its gone that day. I even offered someone $160 (only selling for $60) for just the finisher but he sold it already. The guy that bought it, I offered him double what he paid since he didn't have the AC controller and he didn't even respond. Guess my system will not be complete anytime soon. Am I the only one experiencing this frustration????

(Anyone know how I can shrink the picture?)

I think the AC controller retails for about $220...

Whats tragic is the titanium dash finisher sold for about $60 back in 2004. I actually have an extra dash finisher I am holding onto but am too lazy to swap my existing one out at this time.

My original Panasonic aftermarket HU was a little too wide and I had to actually file down the sides of the DD space so the HU could actually fit and the retracting door didn't get caught. I have a Pioneer HU now and it fits perfectly but now the file edges show which is the reason I bought another dash finisher from Grubbs back in 2006.

I'm surprised demand hasn't sparked a higher production and market for the dash finisher. Did you try emailing Yoshi at J's Garage in Japan?

What is the problem with your OEM unit not sending a good signal to the amp? You should be getting a strong enough signal. If the voltage is too low, then get a simple line driver to increase the signal voltage to feed your amp. Then you can keep the stock HU and have a nice system while you wait for the DD kit to become available.

I was having the same problem you had in trying to find the dash finisher. Every time a new one was posted in the marketplace section it was either gone by the time I made an offer or somebody else had offered more money. I went ahead and got mine from www.japanparts.com about a month ago. Even though It cost more than I wanted to pay ($200 shipped) I was desperate in trying to get my audio system set up ASAP.

Before ordering from japanparts I emailed them asking about the availability, and sure enough they have them in stock. Took 9 days to arrive from the moment I placed my order. I got the AC controller from grubbs since japanparts wants $330 for it (with dual climate control).

Right now the only way to get them is ordering directly from Japan ( J's Garage or Japanparts).

To be honest, I am not sure. Its not the signal going to the amp. I have an Arc Audio DXE processor. The signal from the radio is going there. From there it goes to an Tru Line Driver and then TRU Steel amps. Between the the line driver and the processor the voltage going to the amps may be stronger than any aftermarket HU. But the signal from the HU to the DXE is no good. Without a filter in the middle you barely get any sound when you turn the volume up to 25. With a filter, it works for a while and then the music cuts out and I get these popping noises coming out the speakers. I blew two sets of tweeters on my Dyn 3 way set up since I am fully active. We have tried multiple filters and still no change. Each has its own problem. And I don't think it is a general radio problem but just my radio. This DXE I have in the car is the one out of my installer's G35 Sedan and he never had a filter. His setup is what sold me on this expensive @$$ processor (worth every penny) since his system was running clean off the stock HU. But after many trips to his house and trying different options here and there.....still having issues. I am wondering if I should try another stock HU.

lol. I did. I am at work... I won't be able to get to any kind of car work until Thursday (my half day off). I'll let you know, I will take some pix and show you the files edges and email them to you so you can make sure that's what you want...
