Video On/Off switch DIY?

I know a few G-owners here have put in Video monitors to the headrest and NAV conversion. I just did mine (myself) BUT am looking for a way to turn all the monitors off and on with one button. Has anyone did this and if so, do you have a DIY? I was told from the AV store that i bought the TV's from (Icon's) that I would have to actualy Open up the monitors and clip into one of the wires. Well, I am not that handy, so if anyone has any tips it would be greatly appreciated!

You can just put a relay in between the + power line feeding all the montors then just hook the relays to a common switch.

School yourself on relays:

Re: Video On/Off switch DIY?

I think he means to have the monitors turn on (normally by hitting the power switch on each screen). Right now, my LCDs in the headrests get 12v+ by switching the car on. But to have the monitors actually show a picture, I have to hit the power button individually.

It would be nice to have everything turn on at the push of the button.

Has anyone figured out a way to have the AV tuner do the same? I would love to turn the car on and know that the AV box is already on...

That would be very difficult since basically it's like turning on your TV in your home........ you can plug it in, but it won't come on until you hit POWER. Good luck with this - it'll be difficult to implement unless you have a screen that has no power button - just with power, it's on. Surely they make those. but if you already have your product and you have to hit POWER, then you have your work cut out for you. Good luck.

Yeah, the relay method will only work if your monitors automatically come on with power. If they don't you'll be forced to open up your monitors. There is no way around this. If you can get past the idea of soldering your expensive monitors, you can pretty easily swap out the power buttons on the monitor to have them triggered by a relay when you start up your car. You will have to solder on a new wire from the relay to the solder socket on the board to do this though. There's a tutorial here http://www.talix.com, that among other things, covers swapping out the buttons on a xenarc lcd screen. I did this for my own screen without any problems and do not consider myself to be a particularly good solderer.

Re: Video On/Off switch DIY?

Thanx for all the good advice. Right now, I have to hit the power button on all 3 monitors to bring them up, so...A soldering I will go then!
Many thanx
