Sub in the trunk

Hi all!

Posted a while back that I had a enclosed sub box with an Eclipse 8122 12" installed in my trunk with a JL Audio 250/1 amp smacked on the side of the enclosure. Tweeter did the install and it came out very, very nice! I took some pics of it for your viewing pleasure! Really fills in the bose system nicely! Just need to top off the high end with different capacitors on the tweeters and I should have an awesome system!

Here are the pics! Enjoy!

Re: Sub in the trunk

It booms! I had to turn the signal strength down already from the initial tuning the installer did!

Re: Sub in the trunk

How is it attached to the floor of the trunk, or is it? Can you still get to your spare?

I was thinking about doing this and using velcro to secure it, then when I needed the room I could just remove it.

Re: Sub in the trunk

Looks great. My only suggestion is mounting the amp to the back of the rear seats so the temporary removal would be alot easier.

Do you hear me?

Re: Sub in the trunk

I haven't had to get to the spare yet for the purpose of changing a flat (thank God) but when I do, the floor board can slide up from the front and I will probably get enough angle on it to get it out and expose the spare. The enclosure has a few velcro strips on the bottom which keep it in place. It hasn't slid around at all, even taking sharp turns. The thing wighs about 40+ pounds so it would be pretty hard to move. As far as mounting the amp on the rear seat back deck, there's a small amount of space between the seat rears and the carpet lining. I didn't want to put holes in the carpet and the insulation so I decided to install the amp on the enclosure. I can easily remove the wiring with the allen wrench and remove the whole thing. That way, a future owner has the signal and the power lines to do his own sub and I keep my equipment for my next car. Not so bad, eh? If I have trouble with accessing the spare, I may do something with cutting the floorboard so the amp can sit on the surface while I can get to my spare. I haven't tried it yet but maybe that's a good idea. I just couldn't fathom not having any spare at all and plexiglasing an amp in the well. It looks sweet but could be a big pain and towing might not be covered under road side assistance if I don't have access to a spare. At least i still have one!

Re: Sub in the trunk

Thanks Chip,
You've confirmed a possible option I was considering. I was worried about it sliding around though and sounds like that's not an issue. I like the idea of leaving the Blose to power the rest of the car. That's what I did on my last car (Audi 1.8T) and it sounded great. Although I agree there are no highs, but that can be solved easily with the components.

Did you leave your rear deck speaker in, or take it out? Thanks again!

Re: Sub in the trunk

catafish,

I left my rear speaker in, but they cut the wires to tap the signal. They can be easily replaced when I move on to another vehicle but that will be a while so I wasn't worried about it. Everything in the rear deck is still in tact so moving this system to a new vehicle will be a snap!
