Re: Navigation System

It's saved my butt a bunch of times. If you can afford it, get it.

Re: Navigation System

I have Navi on all my vehicles including my G35C and I definately think they are worth it. I wish it were touch screen though. Even if you later decided to use an aftermarket unit you would still save money and have a factory looking install by hooking it up to the factory navi display.

Re: Navigation System

I also went with an aftermarket nav system, I got the kenwood touchscreen and the nav 3100, more userfriendly, can input while driving, more views, did I mention touch screen hehe, and for about the same price a bit more since I have a dvd place 1 din system, beautiful.

Re: Navigation System

yeah i also went the aftermarket NAV route, there are just so many options to customize your car
one way is a car-computer, another is a NAV system like Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine, or Eclipse. Most of these systems also play DVD Movies and MP3 music as bonuses. they all cost under or about $2000 plus installation.

Re: Navigation System

First, having a nice nav in your car is definitely worth $2000.

As for going the aftermarket route, don't forget to add the $400 that you'd need to spend in order to get the double din dash kit, if you want to do it right. You lose steering wheel controls (or have to get an adapter for that). Touch screen would be nice ... but the joystick does the job. I've played enough Nintendo to be good at "typing" with a joystick.

I don't really like the appearance of the single DIN units that pop up over the AC controls. The double din Eclipse unit looks uber sweet though. I'd just be too stressed that someone would steal it. Thugs are far less likely to rip off the stock navi / blose system.

Bottom line, don't try to go aftermarket if you're only trying to save money on the factory nav. If you're looking for a better, more custom entertainment system, go aftermarket.

Re: Navigation System

got the nav, liked it.

hacked the VSS - love it.

Wish it was touchscreen...also wish i could relocate the DVD to the trunk or somewhere to regain that space.

Hmmmm, if I had known, I probably would have gone aftermarket and spent about the same amount of money, or less considering its built into the payment now. that way i could have a unit that does it "my way"!

cheers, ted
