recommend me some speakers

I'm going to be using 2 JL amps. a 500/1 and a 400/4. I have a 12w6v2, but i'm thinking about getting a 4080. Correct me if i'm wrong, but the 4080 is only for a 10" correct?

What brand/size speakers would you recommend for the front/side/rear? any recommendation on wiring? I only have a 4 ch amp for the mids...

thanks

Yes the 4080 is good for 10" only. You can get a 10w6 to fit, but not a 10w7.

I put XR650 components in the front and coaxials in the rear. 500/1 running the 10w6(s) and 300/4 for the 6.5s.

i was thinking about the 10w7, but i wasn't sure if it could clear the 4080.

Did you just disconnect the 2 speakers in the middle, where the back seats are?

Subs and the boxes they are placed in need to be properly matched. The box has a huge influence on the overall sound. If you want a 4080 box then you need to find a speaker that is designed to work in that amount of air space. The 4080 is a .8 cu ft box. JL recommends a 1.25 cu ft box for the 10w7. Even then Ive herd that jl recommends smaller then ideal to give its sub less low end and more punch, probably to satisfy the average basshead. So basically even if you could get it to fit you are going to have a combination that is all out of whack and is going to probably need some major eq to flatted out. If you dont care about how its going to sound then yeah any 10 that fits in the depth will work, otherwise you are going to have to do a lot more research and find a sub that can get loud enough for you and work in the box you want. The 10w6 is ballpark according to JL for that enclosure.

The 10w7 will not fit.

I replaced my rears with coaxials and pulled my 6x9s out, for good. I've since moved my rears to the trunk lid so now I need to get another set of coaxials for the rear seats again.

For highs I hear Rainbow is supposed to be good and Image Dynamics http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/ for subs. I got Kappa Perfects and they are pretty good.

What's your budget for the speakers?

Personally, I'd recommend only upgrading the front speakers. I'm actually going to disconnect, or just not hook up my rear speakers since I'm going more for an SQ install. You'll get better imaging from having the rears disconnected as it pulls the soundstage forward to where you are at, not behind you. If anything, just put the front speakers on the amp and leave the stock ones in the rears running off the HU.

I don't know your budget, but the Hertz Hi-Energy components are pretty good. I liked the sound of them. Phoenix Gold RSD's have quite a rave, but I haven't heard them. A few others I would recommend depending on the budget.

As for wire, are you asking brand or size? For brand I like Kicker since it's very flexible and great wire. If I had the coin, I'd go with Pear Cable.

i wouldn't want to spend more than 200-250/set front and rear. i would prefer to stay in the 150 range.

so for sound quality you're saying to disconnect the rear seat speakers and just run the amp to the front speakers? i was actually thinking about selling my amps and picking up a 5ch amp to try and cleanup and hide the install. Unless someone can recommend a good place to hide the amp.

As for cables are we talking about the amp kit? the rca cables? or the speaker cables? I'm not really sure what kind of cables i'm going to be using >.<

Also, can someone recommend an alarm? i'm not too fond of the 2way pagers from DEI, i've had a total of 3 DEI alarms go bad on me in my old car.

I'm using a 12" Image Dynamics IDQ12v3 in my sedan. These subs kick ***. They sound great in small enclosures, making them perfect for the 4080 box

Well, people into sq only have front speakers, they also run processors and get the sound in the middle of the car on the dash at about ear level. Having rear speakers is just for fill. It takes away from the front and brings the stage back. It's more for people in the rear. Honestly, they won't know IMO. I had mine taken out and people in the rear didn't know they were out (when I had an Accord and the speakers were actually in the rear deck behind people's heads). This way you can run a 4 channel amp to the fronts.

As for a 5 channel, look into the Alpine PDX. JL should have something as well. Kenwood has a small amp line but I'd take the PDX over the Kenwood any day. As long as the enclosure is properly braced, you can mount the amps on the back of the enclosure so they won't be visible.

Look into the Hertz Hi-Energy and the PG RSD's. You can always check www.diymobileaudio.com and www.caraudio.com for stuff people are selling and get them cheaper.

DEI sucks IMO, ever since they got bought out. I'm not familiar with car alarms so I can't really help ya there.

Indeed. I used to have a pair of IDQ 10's, older models...sounded good off 500w but needed more power. Hooked them up to 1,000w for home theater and they pounded. I've heard several setups with the ID MAX...loved em!
