If you dont know what "Fragile" means, it means to kick and throw the box as much as possible!

Re: My AVIC-N1 double-din conversion

The box was ripped up and damaged, however, all of the parts inside were 100% fine!

Re: My AVIC-N1 double-din conversion

Day 1: Installed the system without the 1/2" drilling, it didnt sit flush so i didnt like it. Luckily there is PLENTY of room behind the unit, so moving it a 1/2" worked just beautifully.
Please note, there is a hide-away unit that I mounted under the front seat. No drilling was needed, just use a screwdriver to screw it into the padding/carpet. I also used tape and velcro underneath the hide-away unit to make it more sturdy.
The wires were routed on the side carpet and then under the seat and to the hide-away unit.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU GET INTO A CAR ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS TECHNIQUE:
I decided to ground the Green "parking brake" wire that came with the N1, which allows you to do all of the functions while moving. I connected all grounds to the bolt behind the infiniti clock as well as the ground wire from the harness. Works great so far!

Day 2: Removed the unit, drilled the bracket, and reinstalled the system, as well as the Voice Command Regonition Kit (CD-VC1). It takes about 5 minutes to completely disassemble the dash for me now! It is SOOOOOO easy to do! I also connected the Vehicle speed pulse or speed sensor or speed cable, whichever word you would like to use. I spliced into the White/Green wire in one of the two unused factory harnesses in the dash. This harness had 4 wires total.

Wow looks like that box survived a train wreck .. glad to hear the parts are okay. Any pics of the head unit? I didn't like going the route of putting one of these motorized screens cuz it blocks the controls in the back. I went with touchscreen install on the cubby on top with a 2GHz pc in the back.

Notice that the color is off here. That is because they take the black double-din console and paint it silver. This totally flew past me. Now i have to paint that to match, somehow.

Also, the A/C buttons that are with the jdm A/C Controller are black. I may swap these out with my stock Grey buttons (Willow interior has grey buttons and brown vents)

This is the hide-away unit that has the G-force and gyro sensors in it. This also houses the vehicle speed-sensor, antenna cable In, A/V in and out, RearView Camera In, Reverse gear sensor, GPS Antenna In, and a communication wire that goes directly to the back of the AVIC-N1 unit.

This is where i had to make the incision because i ran the 4 wires from behind the dash, down the side carpet, and then to under the seat where the hide-away unit sits

My AVIC-N1 double-din conversion

Install time: 9 hours total. 2 days (6+3)

I've been waiting for all of my parts to come for 3 1/2 weeks.
1) Pioneer AVIC-N1 Navigation/DVD/MP3 all-in-one unit with CD-VC1 voice recognition ($1650)
2) Scosche Nissan Harness NN03 and Nissan Antenna Adaptor ($15)
3) SoundKase SKNT4 4cd holder 1-din size ($20)
4) JDM Double-din dash, bracket, and A/C Controller ($380)

The install was fairly easy. The reason it took 9 hours was because I made sure everything was perfect with every step of the way. Basically, I took my time. My friend helped me wire the harnesses and with the initial installation, and was there for moral support. Many thanks!

Custom mods to the above equipment:
1) Had to drill 4 holes into the bracket 1/2" back from the stock holes so that the N1 mounts more "flush" with the dashboard.
2) Had to fill gaps with foam the space between the SoundKase and the N1 unit.
3) Had to make incisions into the carpet to hide the wiring.
Here are some pics (more to come later).

Re: My AVIC-N1 double-din conversion

As far as blocking the controls, its really no big deal, really. I was skeptical like you, but the screen has a feature where it just sits flat for 10 seconds to allow you to change the A/C and then automatically will go back to normal.

Another cool thing about the N1 is that it allows you to perform most of its functions with the screen closed, and has a small screen that tells you which radio station you are tuning to, or which cd, or mp3 is playing.

Re: My AVIC-N1 double-din conversion

Nice install Rambo..........

I agree that box from J's looked like a POS! I thought my box was damaged, you're was 10 times worse than mine. I'm happy to hear that all the contents were okay.

Yes, you have to match the paint somehow on the sides of the ac vents as well as change out the AC buttons to the stock grey ones. It'll look better.

OVerall, you did a great DIY install! Saved yourself a bunch of money too!!!!!!

5 minutes on the dash disassembly huh????? Is that with manual or electric screwdriver? lol I guess I could do 4:59....wanna challenge? lol The more you take your dash apart, the easier it gets huh? Ready.....set.....unscrew!

Good job.....hopefully, it'll inspire others to do their own installs and not get ripped off by install shops.

Re: My AVIC-N1 double-din conversion

Yah, nice install. See, now, yours looks so much better scooted back .5 inches. What did you use for the gap betweem the avic and the soundKase?

lol ... I think we're all pros at dismatling the dash assembly now. I got 4min 58 sec ... all props to docron1 aka joepaniolo for the DIY guide. Good job to the both of you!
