The Audio Overhaul is DONE!
The Audio Overhaul is DONE!
Sound amazing.. the JL XR650CSi Components in the Front, the Eclipse Coaxials in the rear, the Alpine 5 channel amp, and the JL 10 inch.. gives the stock Clarion deck a new life I tell you.. the last piece is the FM Modulator for my CD Changer.. and then I'm done with my car audio

i would wait for the Pax-audio aux connector rather than going the FM route... much better sound quality! Its due out any day now to the public!

Rambo, but I won't get the functionality of my MP3 changer (that is, folders and mp3 id) via the PAC AUX unit.. plus what would my Alpine AiNET cable plug into, follow me?

Re: The Audio Overhaul is DONE!
I know from my own experience, that car audio projects are NEVER done. I thought I was done and then now I have all these other things I want to do with my car audio. The stock HU is now the weakest link in my system and I can't wait to get rid of it when I get some more play $$$.
Thinking about getting a more powerful 450/4 amp and biamping my front components and swapping out the stock HU with a Pioneer DEH-P960MP for better source output, better EQ band control, MP3/WMA playback.
My next project might be an EQ like an Alpine H700 and maybe rewire my setup with competition grade RCAs and wires. I wonder if a Pioneer HU can connect to an Alpine H700? Not sure how much more SQ i'll get with this, but now I'm fanatical about SQ.

It's never actually DONE. Next, put in some neon lighting either under the seats and/or in the trunk to make it look good.
You can ALWAYS add more. Don't fool yourself. Let your mind be free. lol

Re: The Audio Overhaul is DONE!
I have a similar setup in my sedan (JL Comps + Coaxials) however I have replaced the factory Bose ND woofer with a 8" Kicker free air.
Curious if you have the JL 10" in a box sitting in the trunk? If so does it take up tons of room?
I am not happy with the sub in my current setup. Just seems to rattle the deck

Re: The Audio Overhaul is DONE!
If you want to minimize space, get a 10.5LF Boston Acoustics Proseries sub. They aren't as deep as the competitors and put out more sound than most other subs and sound better (IMO) than the JL. You only need a .5 ft-cubed enclosed box. Less space to take up in the trunk - and a lot of punch. They are totally worth the money... but that's just me. I guess I'll actually start my install later this week. I'm finally getting my Alpine components in on Thur/Fri... so now I can begin. I'm getting another shop here in the Big D to install the amp and make a box for the sub. It'll run me $245 if I run the power wire myself... $280 if they run the power wire. I'll see if I can do that myself.
One question though, somewhere, the speaker wire will have to come close to the power wire. I'm running the power wire on the passenger-side and the interconnects on the driver-side. BUT the speaker wire still has to make it to the passenger-side door - will that cause any whine in the system? What's the best way to route the speaker wire since there's no way to avoid the power wire all-together? I know you're reading, Joepanaloni (sp?).... what gives?

Re: The Audio Overhaul is DONE!
if you use good quality sheilded wires.. its a mute point.. considering I'm using a LOC + factory speaker wiring BUT Monster XLR(or is it XLN) interconnects plus the 8 gauge monster power.. it sounds amazing. Concerning the sub.. it doesn't take too much room up in my opinion.

Re: The Audio Overhaul is DONE!
Actually, I was responding about the sub for sdginz... I don't think he was happy with his current setup, so I thought I'd give him some info... I guess the last thing I need to get is some shielded speaker wire. I have some good thick wire, but it's not shielded. I guess I can fork over a few more $$$ for that, huh? You'd think that cars would already have a small punch-out for amp power cables. All we need is about 1/4 - 1/3 of an inch, people.

Re: The Audio Overhaul is DONE!
I didn't want to put a freeair.. so I went with a 10 inch JL in a box.. small Qlogic..but I think I'm gonna get a custom box done in my trunk, as it'll be better suited and will match the carpet exactly!
