Question Nav system locking up - 2008 g35 sedan

Hi,

Anyone have any problems with their navigation system locking up? When starting my car, my screen turns black, then shows "climate control off". When this happens, I can't do anything to the entire consol. Can change the radio, air, anything. It will eventually reset itself after about 15 minutes.

My car is now at Infiniti, but of course they called today and cannot mimic the situation, which means they can't fix it. It's happened to me 4 times in the last month, so trying to mimic the situation may be near impossible.

Thanks for your help.

Denise

Odds are they may just replace the whole Nav system...since your car is so new. My guess....

I had the same thing happen to me. I called the service dept and the guy asked me if I had a burned CD inserted. I did. When I took it out it came back to life! Has happened 3 times in the last month. Owned the car since 01/01/08.

Hmmm, don't think I have a cd in. Also, i doubt they will replace the entire nav system since who knows what the cause may me. All I know is that it's really inconvenient since you can't change anything when it does lock up!

I'll be taking a video next time it happens for sure!!

As far as being covered by the warranty, yes, it will be, but the problem is they don't know what to fix.

Unhappy Happened to me this weekend

The same thing happened to me two days ago. Here are the details:

2008 G35x, prem, nav, tech, about 4000 miles.

Turned on car. Pressed accept button on initial screen, but screen didn't respond. Turned off car, restarted, now screen was black. Put car in reverse: No camera image, screen still black.

Drove to store: No air conditioning controls available. Tired pressing manual buttons on console--fan speed, temp, etc. No response. AC seemed to be in some limp mode with low fan outside air.

Also, no radio or other sound system worked. Pressing manual buttons didn't work.

After starting up to return from store: Same thing--black screen. Going home, interior of car was getting warm. Tried pressing manual fan control. This time it worked. Fan speed increased, then screen lit up. Car has been normal since, including 100 mile round trip No. VA to Baltimore.

So, everything appears to be working right now, but I'm running scared. Any advice?

Pretty scary. No advice yet, but I'm taking my car back in because I found something that I can mimic when I'm at the service shop.

The key is to make sure they can mimic it or they won't do anything. Definitely do the video though so at least you have it on record.

Thanks. Taking a video is a good idea.

BTW, I haven't used non-commercial CDs in the player. I did have a"flutter" fixed 5 days prior to the screen blackout. The car had sounded as if it had a burned valve: Service used a tech bulletin to replace something in the heater core, which eliminated the flutter. I don't want to blame service because the blackout didn't happen until 5 days after the service.

I had something similar happen a few times when my car was new in early 2007, but it usually resolved itself by turning the car on and off a few times. It hasn't happen since.

This is the thread I made on the problem at the time:

I think they are replacing the nav system since they were able to seem another problem. Some of my radio stations would no longer highlight.. so if I was scrolling down, it will stop at the station, unhighlight, then if i scrolled down again it would start from the top instead of continuing. Hard to explain really. They are not sure this will fix the other problem, but it all seems related.
