TPM and Cell phone RFI
TPM and Cell phone RFI
I got a new Iphone Wednesday nite. While driving to work Thursday morning my Tire Pressure Monitor light came on. BTW I have an '08 G35X sedan with Nav. I stopped and looked at the tires along side the road and they looked good.
About 5 hours later I stop at my workshop and checked the air pressures. SInce I drove on the hot pavement about 1 mile and it was quite warm the tire pressure read high on all 4 tires, about 38 - 40 PSI. BUT I did see that 1 tire had a nail in it. I took the G to the dealer hoping for a patch but they said it was too close to the sidewall and had to replace it. NOTE to self Keep road hazard warranty paperwork in car! I had the dealer check the other tires while it was on the lift. They said they were OK. Any way on the way home the TPM light came on again. Damn! I had started the car with the IPhone off but the TPM came on.
This morning I started the car with the IPhone on again and the light came on. I Shut off the car and checked the pressures. 3 tires read 30.5 PSI and the new tire read 33.5 psi, just .5 above the required pressure. I continued my errands with the light still on. I stopped for about 1 hour and before I started the car again turned the phone off. The light stayed off until about 20 minutes after I turned on the phone again. OK it looks like my new toy is interfering with the TPM system. I made a quick stop started the car again the TPM light came on for about 5 seconds and then turned off for the rest of the ride home, about 15 minutes.
Now is the phone causing interference??????
The TPM has worked with now problems since I got the car in February.
Has any 1 else seen problem with cell phones (ATT/GSM) and any systems in the G?
Edit 1. I just finished looking through the shop manual. The indication I am receiving (blinks for 1 minute then stays on) indicates a problem with the TPM system.
Getting on the phone with the dealer now.

I thought I would update this post. I have since installed a mount for my IPHONE 3G on the dash. Since the install I have had NO problems with the TPM.
Before installing the mount the phone was sitting on my passenger seat. Now it is just to the right of the AC controls.
