300/4, stock speakers?
Anyone running their stock speakers on a 300/4?
Mostly interested in knowing if the XO is built into the factory amp, I can't quite remember for sure, which would obviously be a big factor in whether or not this is feasible. I have one hanging out and would like to do so if possible.

Well sure, I wouldn't buy an amp specifically to power stock speakers...
But... if I have it laying around, I might as well install it now... that way when I do comps, I'll just have to swap speakers and maybe bridge the amp.
I'll end up doing some really decent comps when I get around to it, so they will have a bit of a cost associated with them... and right now I'd better finish my Z1 install otherwise I'll never get it done.
I'm thinking maybe some Focals or DLS or whatever 6.5" set will fit in the stock locations.
Evidently the DLS Iridium 6.2 is pretty orgasmic, but I think I remember hearing that the tweets don't fit the stock locations. Maybe get out the Dremel.
Blah. Anyway, might as well do it. I'll post back how it goes.

It might just be too much power for those speakers. As far as the crossover, it is built into the factory amp. So the front and rear line ins are full range but the amp high passes to the front and rear and low passes to the 6x9s.
Oh, does anyone know where exactly the wiring for the tweeter and the woofer split for the front door speakers? There are so many red and green wires and it seems like they all go to/come from different places. When wiring aftermarket components, I should just be able to use the woofer tap for the crossover module, right?

I guess the XO that you are referring to is a bit different than what I was referring to-- putting a highpass on the fronts and a lowpass on the rears wouldn't be a big deal, (could be handled from the 300/4). My concern was about bandpassing the mid and protecting the tweeter...
so if there's only two pairs coming out of the stock amp for the fronts, it should be NBD.

Oh I know what you mean now. There's actually one pair of wires for each door (four leads total for the front speakers). So either at the door harness or somewhere before, the wires are split. Yeah, and since the tweeter has a high pass cap on it, you don't have to worry about damaging the speakers with low frequency.
