Is that a good thing or bad thing?

Stock speakers suck in general. It is a good idea to always check watts as well as impedance, but reminds me of what I see in a lot of home theaters... You see people buying $2500 flat screens, $700 7.1 channel stereo, and the $300 for a surround speaker set.

My rule of thumb as been 50/50 or better head unit to speakers. If I am spending $400 on a head unit, then I want $400 on speakers, etc. I have had good luck with Infinity Kappas, Boston Acoustic, and used to use Rockford Fosgate ages ago, but haven't used them in years.

Then again, I was also generally running 1/0 gauge back from the engine compartment to a splitter block and then running 4 gauge to the amps. Definite over kill, but then again, I also have a fuse in my Integra GS-R that I am finally selling that is probably 12 years old and never had an issue either.

Other thing I always tried to do is run speaker and interconnects down the opposite side from the power, so if the cars power was running down the driver's side to the trunk, I would run my amp power there, and run the interconnects and front speakers down the passenger side.

Only problem I have had with Apline HUs is after about 4 or 5 years, the laser pick-ups become more sensitive to road bumps or scratches on the CDs, but this is the nature of most mobile audio CD players I imagine.

JL is a good speaker but not the best. There are a lot of other players out there too. I would take a Image Dynamics sub over them all. Then again your kicker, cerwin, rockford and quarts are all great. There are plenty more as well. Some just like to follow the pack.

I forgot about MB Quartz. Those were in my car that got stolen a while back along with a pair of ADS PQ-20s that I loved. A little old school, but I loved the PQ-20s for what they did

JL is a decent brand, just very overpriced. Good marketing has gotten them a good rep though.

There are much better things for the price though, Image Dynamics, Quartz, Memphis, Fi car audio, etc just to name a few.

I just picked up a 10w3 though but for 50 bucks used.

I worked car audio for a few years. I have done Alpine, Pioneer, Kicker, Focal, JL, Audiobahn, Crossfire, MB Quart, Boston, MTX, Panasonic, PPI, and a few others. JL is by far my favorite and IMO, for the money, the best subs on the market.

hmm really? 12w7 runs for 600+ new. that is insane! i agree it is a very nice subwoofer but for what else you could get at that price i believe it is just paying for the brand then
