I'd go to Fry's instead of Best Buy. I find best buy to be overpriced. Hopefully it's just the RCA's.

OK, I put new RCA wires in today, and its doing the same thing still. I think the only thing left is to remove the sub and see if its just not holding its Ohm load anymore. If so, Im not using Rockford Subs anymore. this will be my second one in less than 2 months

My sub is warrantied, so It should be a free to a cheaper replacement. What subs should I look into for a 10" with 1.25 air space in a ported box?

It sounds like a bad ground or a voice coil short to me.

redid ground. so im gonna guess its the voice coil on the sub

Use a DMM to see if they are showing proper impedences. If they are, double check wiring on the sub and make sure they are in tact.

well, It was the freakin sub. It had 0 ohms of resistance. So I took it back to the shop I bought it at. And got this as my replacement for $100

Did you say that it was working before? Did you get a new amp or anything or did it do that all of a sudden? I had a dual 2 ohm sub that I had bought and I had it wired in parallel to be ran at 1 ohm, however when i was about to sell it, the guy wanted it wired in series at 4 ohms and the sub didn't work. Checked each coil. One was fine and the other read 0 ohms, meaning the coil was dead. The entire time I was running the sub off 1 coil which will change the T/S parameters.

That is actually a manufacturer defect. If this is what happened to you, I would go back to the shop and argue that statement and get your $100 back.

it happened all of a sudden on my way back from Riverside. It was working, and halfway home it suddenly started going out on me. The JL sub i got was over $200, but I got it for $100, and I paid $90 for the rockford a month ago

Ah, gotcha...well hope everything is working out good. You may have blown one of the coils with the RF. Any smells?

I was smelling a burnt smell later, but not when it first started happening.

JL is much cleaner of a sub in sound, and takes less power to get good bass out of it

JL is much better when it comes to subs than RF. And they are pretty efficient as well, which is why i went with an oldschool 15w6 for my setup. Only needs about 400-600w in total with under 2 cu. ft. sealed to get plenty loud and sound great.
