getting ready to buy a 10w6, but it has a small tear!

it is in the ring and im not sure if i should be concerned.
it is at the bottom of the speaker in the pic below.
just below the W6 logo.

from what i heard it is more of a cosmetic thing and the guy did patch it up.

thoughts??

I personally would not buy something that was damaged.

If it sounds good and you can get it for a killer deal, then why not.

No it wont be fine the tear is in the foam/rubber surrounding material and thats where all the movement takes place, also the air difference in the box and the outside will be thrown off through that tear and lead to a bigger tear. You can always *** it with a repair kit. the crack or hole in the cone doesnt mess anythng up because the cone it actually two layers about 10mm apart

he "claims" it is fine and that it never affected it but he didnt like the look so he repaired (patched) it up.

he is selling the zencloseure box with the 10w6 and the JL 500/1 for $475 plus shipping. i talked him down to $450 shipped!!

yea?
or nay??

thanks all!!!

wow. please don't consider buying a sub that has a tear in the surround, seriously.

If you're considering buying that thing, why not just buy mine, they will end up looking the same eventually:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=190259164382

also do note that it is a 12w6v2, not a 12w6. there is a significant difference.

a small tear in the surround will not hold the voice coil precisely aligned, the coil will rub, heat up, damage itself, the tear will get larger, air will pass through it, it won't be as loud, you'll turn it up more, it will just destroy itself.

the only thing that would be worth is to turn it in to JL for a warranty recone. I'm not expecting to get $250 for mine.

the amp is worth 250-300, the sub is worth next to nothing, the box is... well, a box. if you pay $450 for that, you're hosing yourself. I'd talk him down to $350 at most

well it really just depends on the price. 450 for amp and cosmetically damaged sub is a little much. i paid 200 for my 10w6v2 with box (box was subpar but didnt matter to me since i plan on switching it anyways) and i found a 500/1 amp on craigslist locally for 150. everything was in like new condition. so i figure if i can get a deal like that, then so can you.
