Question HELP with DD install, unit doesn't have RCA inputs...

I have an 03 coupe with Bose, and am swapping it for an Eclipse AVN20D. I have the Metra kit with 70-7550, and understand I need the 70-7551 harness to retain my Bose amp. But looking at the back of the deck, there isn't any RCA inputs. Is that correct? Or do I have it a** backwards...

Here's some pics of the headunit.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/pictures.php?id=13441

The pdf that is stickied from docron1 has a Bose oem unit, but no mention of using the 70-7551, looks like the standard 70-7550.

Can someone sheld some light for me?
Thanks!

I do have the Metra adapter (70-7550) which i purchased at a local car audio shop for my JDM DD Kit (not installed yet). It wasnt after I bought the adapter that I heard about the Metra hardness 70-7551 which comes with the RCAs and even found this thread in which a different adapter is used http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/mp3c...initi-g35.html

I get my aftermarket radio and the DD kit this wednesday and I guess i will be giving this hardness (70-7550) a try myself and see if that works, if not then I'll take it to the local shop and get it installed there.

The link I posted talks about the Bose amp but it doesnt specify whether the hardness they used was a bypass or it allowed him to keep the amp.

Sorry I coudlnt give you a direct answer but i'm looking for the right solution myself.

your head unit probably has a pigtail that has the RCA connections on it. That's how Pioneer DD head units are. I find it hard believe that Eclipse would sell a headunit with no preamp outputs.

it doesn't matter which harness you use. you will get louder - possibly distorted sound at higher volumes with the 7550, but with the 7551 you could end up with "turn on pop" - when you turn on the stereo you might hear a pop or snap depending how you want to describe it.
The Bose system isn't a big deal. It's just like 95% of factory amplified systems - you just need to hook up with amp turn on wire and you've got audio.

Troy I'm getting the Pioneer AVICF900BT this wednesday and already purchased the 70-7550 hardness as well, going by what you mentioned about the 70-7550 and the distorted sound, do you know if there is a way to fix it? since most likely i will use the 7550, or do you recommend going with the 7551 and deal with the pop sound if it gives better sound quality?

distorted sound will only be fixed with proper tuning from the deck and not CRANKING it all the way up. you're usually safe on the pioneers going up to about 35 of 40 (I think that's the same scale on the F series) but on the avg aftermarket deck - when running factory amp - you can go around 90% of the max volume on the deck.
Best way to find out if your system is distorting. take a song that you know REALLY well listen to it on your home theatre system or something that you can use as a reference fairly loud so that you know what to expect when you listen to it in your G.
Once in the car keep turning it up until
A: you can't hear yourself think and it still sounds good
B: you start hearing inconsistencies. higher lyrics sound a lil muffled, bass just seems off.
As soon as you've reach one of those points turn the deck down one notch at a time. until it sounds closer to your "reference" system.
At least that's what I do

first things first..the main difference in the harnesses 7550 & 7551 is going to be the RCA voltage coming from your radio. If your radio pushes 4 volts or more go with the 7551, if it puts out less go with the 7550. I installed both on a radio with only 2.5 volts and could max the volume on the 7551 harness and barely hear it. with the 7550 i had to turn on the option to limit the volume on the radio.

Thanks guys!
I'm getting everything tomorrow and will be installing it after work (using the 70-7550 hardness) I'll give it a try and most likely try TroysG method. NORTHTX, i dont really have a way to meature the output of my radio but.... I'll go with the 70-7550 and if its too bad then i'll buy the 7551 and give it a try.
I also found this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-d5kA1nT...51&I=142C4NN03 dont know how if it'll be any different from these two hardness we've been talking about here.

I'll post my results once i get everything installed.

Thanks again
