Help with the UK's first twin din on a skyline 350 gt!

hi all, just found your site and would like to congratulate you on an awesome reference site, ive found everything i need so far, i live in the uk and as you already know g35's or sky 350gt's were never released here but i found one, a black one, fell in love with it when i set eyes on it and bought it instantly, i have noticed a few things that american cars have and dont have ,

1. my mirrors lower themselves when engaging reverse
2. i dont have buttons on both sides of the steering wheel only audio (i guess yours are for cruise control)
3. bit of an obvious one but everything is on the other side!

ok on with my question(s) my car is an AT '04
1. there is a small rattle hum when listening to audio coming from the drivers door(or passenger door in america) really winding me up now any ways of eliminating this?
2. as my car is a *** import the nav installed is absolutely no use whatsoever!and the bose headunit doesnt work for the first 30mins of use it just keeps skipping, so what i would like to do is bin the lot, purchase a twin din *** fascia and ac unit and fit a twin din headunit, and purchase a single din dvd player for where the nav rom is and rip out the nav screen and replace it with a good video quality screen but still retain the pop up housing, also bin the bose speakers and amp and replace with drop in items that will allow me to retain the door housings, any thoughts?
3. are there any problems with ripping out all of the oem stuff, for example do any other parts of the car stop working like interior lights or dashboard lights, the reason i ask this is that when i am low on fuel a big petrol pump icon appears on the nav screen so there must be a link of some sort?

4. i know this is a long confusing post but just to clarify, if you had the option of getting rid of the nav rom, screen, bose headunit, bose amp bose speakers what would you do? i dont mind spending cash just not spending thousands, what i would like to end up with is 2 rear speakers 2 front speakers, 1 sub, 1 amp, 1 twin din hu, 1 dvd player(single din in nav rom's place) and a new screen in oem nav screen housing,

5, how would sound get from dvd player in glove box to twindin headunit? i know this sounds silly but the last time i fitted a head unit there were far less complications, just 8 speaker wires and a pos and neg feed, it was a few years ago!!!!!!!!!!!,

thanks for taking the time to read this over complicated thread but any thoughts ideas recommendations welcomed, ive got my ideas down on paper but by the sounds of things there are a lot of pros and cons thanks guys appreciate your help

Welcome to the board!
First off, have you considered simply getting a head unit that has a screen and navi built in? The Alpine IVA-W505R or IVA-W205R in combination with their blackbird portable navigation unit would give you all the navigation, dvd, cd and processing power you would need. http://www.alpine-electronics.co.uk/...edia-stations/ That way you don't have to purchase a separate high contrast LCD simply for the navi. Pioneer, Eclipse, JVC and Clarion all make similar models. All of the systems are separate in these cars. Removing the navi shouldn't hinder your vehicle, except you would lose that petrol light you mentioned.

As far as front and rear speakers are concerned, check out brands like Morel, DLS, Image Dynamics and Hertz. You will likely want to get a set of 6.5" either coaxial or components for the fronts and 6x9's to put in the rear decks. I would advise against trying to replace the speakers above the armrests in the rear simply because they don't fit into the door and have no baffling, which means whatever you put in there will likely sound like crap. As far as component vs. coaxial its all about time and money. The components will sound better and allow you to position the tweeter where it sounds best to you, but you will have to find a place for the tweeter that is not stock as one will not likely fit in the stock door sail panel locations. They will also be a little more expensive.

The last part of the system will be the subwoofer and its amplifier. For an easy, custom looking install I would highly recommend either doing this yourself, or getting your hands on a 4080 box (just search around the forum for info on this.) As far as what sub to get, I like JL Audio and Image Dynamics. Your amplifier will be highly dependent on your subwoofer selection. How much power you need...etc...etc. JL Audio, Zapco, Arc Audio and Tru Technology, all make wonderful amps. JL and Arc are a little more affordable and I would warn against buying a really good amp and a cheap sub, also visa/versa.

Lastly you need to get the power and signal wires appropriate. I'll skip this part, assuming you know about it, but I can give you some help here too if needed.

Good luck!

here's an option if you want 2 aftermarket screens in your car.
first there's the double din. and secondly, I found this one (I know there's another one but I can't find it right now.)
but that's one way you can do things.
secondly you can do what I did and just keep the factory nav screen and use it for it's information (fuel mileage, service information, big ol gas light)
