I'm looking at a JL Audio a6450 to replace the stock bose. Do I really need a 4gauge wire kit or will an 8gauge be fine?

4 seems like overkill.

Yeah. 8's fine. It'll make running the power and ground wire much easier.

The manual says 8 AWG is the minimum. You should be fine. I'm sure there's a little bit of a safety factor built in there as well.
