ipod connectivity

ok i know there are hundreds of threads about this and i've read a lot of them, but i still have a couple questions that i want a definitive answer for

my setup is stock BOSE with XM from the factory

what i want is to connect my ipod touch (hopefully an iphone 3G in the near future) and i would really like it to charge also

here's my #1 question..... most of the threads talk about how well the ipod connection units are with regards to controlling the ipod through the steering wheel controls... BUT i really dont want this, I would rather control it through the ipod itself, which is rarely discussed in most of the threads

so based on that, which unit (PAC-NIS2, or Nissan OEM) would I be better off with?

thanks!

from my research, i believe the Nissan one is harder to install (goes in trunk) according to this install guides:

http://digitalenvy.org/files/g35/g35ipod.pdf
http://www.g35parts.com/download/ipodinstall.pdf

and it's more expensive - at least twice as much.

like you, i didn't want HU or steering controls - wanted my iphone mounted on my dash and control from there. i went with the PAC - more here.

Why not get a USA Spec PA11 Nis? It allows you control the Ipod from the steering wheel, HU, or the iPod itself. Coincidentally, I just bought a usa spec for my '05 G and will be installing it this weekend.

correct me if i'm wrong - but from my understanding you can NOT use the USA Spec unit with factory Sat.

he said he as factory, XM...so that would rule out the USA Spec unit as an option for him.

yeah i def. need to keep the XM...... and correct me if im wrong, but i BELIEVE the PAC one lets you keep stock sat. radio but when the ipod/phone is plugged in, it overrides the XM?

Well then I guess the PAC is the way to go. It won't charge the iPod though.

^ correct, if you flip the switch on the side of the unit to "Sat" then you can use both.
