Headunit Help Alpine D901, Eclipse 2494, PioneerN1

I've done a TON of research, and can't seem to decide which touch screen, dvd player, headunit to go with. Just looking for some other opinions. Pro's and cons, etc....

Looking to compare these 3 headunits:

Alpine IVA D901
Eclipse AVX 2494
Pioneer AVIC-N1

And does anyone know when the kit will be more affordable than $401?

thanks in advance for the replies!!!

im going for the AVN 2454...
you can buy the kit from some people that ordered them but didnt install them, check in the parts/accessories of this forum... or ebay???

i heard the pioneer sucks, so that narrows it down to the eclipse and the alpine... the alpine blocks your A/C controls, so im going with the double-din AVN...

let me know what you do...
and if you go with the double-din, there are 2 parts you dont need from the dash kit (the pocket and the blank piece)... will save you like $20, so $380, so if you buy used, pay no more than $330... just make sure it hasnt been installed!

Where have you heard the N1 sucks? Several people here have installed it and they seem to like it. I have it installed myself and think it's great value for the price.

As for the dash kit, considering the changes for 2005, you may want to get one now before they are no longer available.

More opinions on the headunits mentioned above are welcomed!!!

Re: Headunit Help Alpine D901, Eclipse 2494, PioneerN1

well, the 901 is not touch screen. I have installed several N1's and they r ok but pic quality and screen size is its down fall i believe. i love eclipse the AVX2494 which isn't out yet and has the same pic quality as the 901 i would say go with that, but as for your actual available choices i say 901 all the way. Its Alpine , its a 7" screen with the best quality(they say that it would give you an HD pic if you had the KVH directv satalite setup for your vehicle and had the HD channels ) , it has all the rear monitor switching you'd normally need built in, the DVD,CD,MP3 mechanism for the 901 is the same one from the F#1(stands for FU@KIN #1) Status headunit from Alpine.
yeah its not touch screen but who wants there friends(because u know that's whos gonna wanna touch it all the time and go ohh ahhh thats cool) dirty, greasy finger prints on your radio. I DONT! as far as im concerened the 901 is the Shiznit

Tell me more about "HD pic if you had the KVH directv satalite setup for your vehicle and had the HD channels." I'm not too familiar with that at all. The D901 is my choice as well even though it's not touch screen. But good point about friends messing with it.

Next question, where's a good, reliable place on the net to purchase one? And what KIT parts will I need to order? I still can't find the site to order the KIT on here either. I hear everyone talking about it, but can't seem to find the web page.

And what do you mean I lose A/C controls if I were to go with the Alpine??? And I can only find the D900, not the D901 anywhere!!!

Re: Headunit Help Alpine D901, Eclipse 2494, PioneerN1

Our shop installs all three units regularly. They are all good units. The Alpine is not very popular anymore. The AVX is not sold very often due to its high price, but more have been sold than was first thought. The AVIC-N1 is a good piece due to its low cost if you want navigation built-in. The most popular unit by far is the Eclipse AVN2454. You cannot beat the 3 year warranty and overall value. The navigation is incredibly accurate and fast. For a touch screen, the picture quality is superb. Having a CD/MP3 slot and a seperate DVD slot is unbeatable. Also, it fits well and doesn't block access to above controls. If you are interested in the AVN and have a hard time finding it local, let me know. We were Eclipse retailer of the year 2 years in a row and get the highest allocation of product.

Re: Headunit Help Alpine D901, Eclipse 2494, PioneerN1

The AVX2494 is out and available. The AVX's Fujitsu screen picture quality BLOWS the Alpine's away. Also, we have sold hundreds of touch screens and there is no way to see the fingerprints unless the screen is off and even then, they can just be wiped off.

Alpine makes decent stuff, but is not Alpine of old. Alpine's largest customer is Circuit City and everyone knows that you always design and build product for your largest customers. That is what Alpine has done the last 5 years as Circuit City kept Alpine from going out of business. Still decent product, but if you work with type of product everyday, you get to see that there is better available.

Re: Headunit Help Alpine D901, Eclipse 2494, PioneerN1

I guess depending on price, I would be in on a group buy for the Eclipse AVX 2484. I know it's more money than the AVN, but if the picture quality is THAT much better, than I'm in to spend the extra bucks.

Who else is in? What kind of price are we talking and how many people would we need?

Has a group buy already happened on the kit that I missed? If not, maybe we can start one of those also!!! Just a thought.

Let's see how many people we can get interested!! Post here your thoughts.
