Re: ideas for sub install??
I'd really like to see an install with the 10" sub or subs directly behind the rear seats. would it fit under there? (assuming you remove the 6x9's and their enclosures to give a little more height)
I guess most people put their amps on the back of the seats. so maybe just 1 x 10" sub and an amp next to it? is that possible?

gninja,
It sounds good once I supplied the sub with enough power. I'm seriously considering replacing the 10" with a 12" Boston Acoustic sub from a previous installation.
I don't see why you couldn't have another enclosure on the other side of the spare, but I never looked into it either.

Re: ideas for sub install??
Take a look at g35audioman's setup. I believe he is running two 10"s right behind the rear seats with the amps resting in the spare tire area covered by plexiglass.
As for sub locations. Depends on what you want. Ppl who can live without the spare and ppl who can't. Those are the two camps out here and there are different solutions. The enclosure that 4080 and his crew is engineering looks to be a good solution for those that want to maintain their spare tire in the trunk. I've even seen some crazy page where some dude put in three 12W7s against the rear seats in his G35 coupe. Absolutely no trunk space is available. You might have a space to fit a notebook and that's it. Just imagine the SPL and burst kidneys with that setup!!!

Where are you located? I'm getting a system similar to what you're looking for in a couple of weeks. I'm doing my own wiring to save money but I'm going to have the subs in a custom fiberglass enclosure probably painted in black or silver facing the rear. I will have an amp rack between the sub enclosure and back seat so when the back seat folds down, you will see the amps mounted with lights shining on it. An install here in Panama City, FL quoted me about $1100 but that's with amp install, and money for wiring. Hopefully, they could shave at least $250 off of that and just charge me labor for the enclosure (ie molding, sanding, paint), amp rack, and lighting.

Re: ideas for sub install??
I've got a dumb question for you, g35audioman. When you compete in the SQ competitions, is your rear seat down or up? I'm mainly curious to know why you chose to go against the conventional wisdom of rear-firing the subs. When the rear seat is up, do you feel that your configuration is still superior to rear-firing them in this car?
Re: ideas for sub install??
That's not at all a dumb question. Many people wonder about why i choose to face the subs forward.
Basically, facing the subs forward does result in a flatter response in terms of in-cabin bass response. Now, being that SQ competition was my main focus, i wanted a flat, balanced in-cabin response.
However, what i did sacrafice was SPL. When i did do the SPL test at the comp, i only managed to get a 129.4db reading. Granted, i did not tune my car for SPL before i entered the lanes. I'm sure i could get to the 135db cutoff at the next comp.
Whether the seats are up or down, i do not feel, or hear, a difference. If one were blind folded, i doubt they would be able to tell if the seats were up or down when comparing the bass output. I did not put my seats down for either the SQ comp or the SPL portion. Although, i probably should have for the SPL comp, even if it only got me a quarter of a db. Next time i will
Is my setup superior to rear-firing? It depends on what you are after. It will give you the flattest response in-car, but you won't be able to get as loud without more power to compensate for the positioning. IMO, it sounds incredible the way it is, but ofcourse, i am talking from an SQ mindset.
Hope this clears things up. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Thanks.

Re: ideas for sub install??
No, you do not turn off your sub for the SQ portion or the RTA. Without the sub on, i would have no frequencies below 70hz playing through. That wouldn't improve sound quality or the RTA reading.
