Installed Memphis Street Edge Tweeters to BOSE system... SOUNDS GREAT! 2005 g35x

The only complaint i have had about the BOSE system was the lack of/drowing of the Highs by the Low and Mid channel... you have to run the Bass at +2 and the Treble at +5 for the system to be half decent.

I recently saw a thread on a aftermarket tweeter install and decided to try it. I went to my local Audio shop and purchased some Memphis Street edge Tweeters for $32.10. (I didnt feel like waiting on shipping... probably could of paid less off the net)

All i can say is WOW :bigthumb :biggrin the BOSE system is greatly enhanced... the whole sound stage is improved! :bowdown

You can now hear the Highs with the treble set at zero! so im running the EQ at +2 Bass and +1 Treble (just to give it some amp power)

If you been complaining about the BOSE system and dont want to spend big bucks... just replace the Tweeters. I will still do a complete replacement later on next year but this will hold me over til then :dthumb

here are some PICS of the install

Had to modify the bracket to fit the new tweeters

New Tweeter installed with a slight Bend on the bracket, a very snugg fit

Re-wired new tweeter (yeah it was 43 degrees out :Xfrown: but i was determined)

All mounted back up... just need the screws and covers back on

Close up of the stock tweeter.. BTW it says 4ohm on the back??? thought everything was 2ohm???? :confused

Good deal bro. Glad it turned out well. I replaced all my factory speakers and added an extra set of tweeters and now my system is almost barrable.

Bose in cars isn't the bose of yesteryear. it's not a goofy system in 90% of cars. most of the systems are full 4ohm setups
and the headunits are usually clarion

I think I'm going to do this. Are the memphis tweets 2 ohms or 4 ohms?

No wonder those things are alot louder. 1/2 the resistance equals twice as loud, just as long as the Bose amp can handle it. Any problems yet?
Thanks! Also, any crossovers with the memphis tweets?

no problems so far...

i didnt use a cross over, they didnt come with one... they only have a frequency response of 5kHz-20kHz... plus the speakers in the g35 are a component system... pretty sure they are 2ohm...

i got my tweeters from a place in warner robins call audio zoo...

I am surprised that they have not blown without a crossover. To function properly and last they really do some kind of crossover. Tweeters are not meant work with the frequencies the mids are. If you keep the vol low you may be ok.

It would still have the factory crossover though as I believe that resides in the Bose amp.

That crossover is for the midrange / tweeter combo. Its probably just a highpass set at 120 hz or so. Not nearly high enough for a tweeter. The bose x over is that tiny capacitor hooked across the leads you can see in the last pic. The stock midrange probably just plays full range.

yes you can

the memphis tweeter doesnt require a cross over and the g35 speakers are a component system... just cut out the old tweeter ane re-wire with new tweeter...

yeah you are right... but the memphis tweeters are doing fine... loud or soft volume... i wouldnt be surprised to crack open the memphis tweeter and see a capacitor or two... would have to have them to get the advertised frequency response....
