For you mobile electronics wizards...

Guys,

I've got a small circuit board that I need to encase in something (insulated, of course) that I can safely mount under the dash somewhere. Below is a pic of the board.

Anyone got any suggestions for how I can mount it? The positive/ground lines I've got down. Just wanna know if anyone here's got some knowledge on how to get this board properly:
  • insulated
  • enclosed
  • mounted
as cleanly and securely as possible.

Thanks!
B

Thanks, I've also heard to wrap it all in electrical tape or just drown it in RTV silicone. The insulation I think I've got down... anyone know of a nice clean way to enclose/box the board so I can mount it?

Thanks...

personally I like the heat shrink idea... but what are the dimensions? you should prolly shrink the pic a lil so that it can fit on the avg person's screen
what's this lil gadget going to do?

If you are lucky, your local Rat Shack might have a "project box" just the right size. This looks like a filter circuit for something. You can find a proper sized box and just Hot Glue it in the box or "Pot" it in by laying it in the box and filling it with clear epoxy.

Look HERE, and you will see what I'm talking about.

There, resized it... much better!

Yeah, it's pretty small - it was inside a cigarette lighter adapter. I just want to hard wire the component directly into the car's 12v circuit without using the cigarette lighter. Apparently I need this board since it has a fuse (for which I now have holder), and some capacitors/resistors too. It's about the size of a very small cell phone.

The Rat Shack near me kind of blows so I might have to venture out a bit to see if I can find one that has a small project box. As for the epoxy, what kind should I use?

Thanks!

You can find liquid epoxy at most home stores in a double syringe with a mixing tube. You just push it out where you want it as it comes out pre-mixed.

Thanks gents. Would you say liquid epoxy or silicone RTV better to fill up the "project box"?

The liquid will settle much better than the RTV, it will give you a much more professional appearance.

How long does it take the epoxy to firm up and dry?
