Re: Stock navigation in non navi G35
double-din is the ONLY way to go... think about it, i know its $400 which is costly, but you will always have your stock radio/dash at hand incase you ever wish to sell your car or if you have warranty issues.
Or you can customize your dash, a permanent job, which will run you $200 to $700 (depends on the extensiveness)
So, the choice is obvious.. double-din

nope you wont be able to keep the stock changer installed.
the circuit board and buttons are built-into the face of the stock dashboard. (anti-theft design)

Re: Stock navigation in non navi G35
I don't have the stock navigation, but have a quick question about it. I've read the following on various threads
The stock navigation is motorized
The stock navigation is not motorized
The stock navigation needs to be pushed shut
The stock navigation is spring loaded
As you can see, I'm a bit confused. Exactly how does this thing function? If it's spring loaded, is it smooth?? Sorry for the novice question, I'm just looking into getting the stock holder (~$700) with an aftermarket screen and can't seem to grasp this detail.

its spring loaded, not motorized and needs to be pushed-down to be shut. Angle adjustment is very small though, with the screen being that high up im sure you will get tons of glare on a bright sunny day.
press a small button on the top and the unit pops up smoothly. push it down to put it away completely

From an convenience perspective, wouldn't going with the Infiniti model be the cleanest and (supposedly) the easiet to do? Since the space is built out for that equipment (as opposed to an aftermarket) And assuming you could get it done elsewhere for less and weren't too worried about no warranty?
Just wondering,
Al
