"Reversegear signal input wire color"

I've found on my 2004 G35x the correct wire for the backup light is solid orange. I've read solid purple is the correct wire on the drivers side kick panel or is this for the coupe only. Does anyone know?

are you testing it? or are you just sorta guessing?
do you have a backup camera being installed that's the only reason I'd connect it.

Yes I'm testing it. When I put the car in reverse the orange wire reads 12v and nothing when I put it in park, drive etc. I tested the purple wire and nothing, I'll try it again. And yes I will install a backup camera in the near future!

Great advice! I've struggled a bit installing this AVIC beast. I've done numerous installs in the past put this took the cake.

take your time with it man. if you're looking for parking brake wires and so on always trust your results over a manual, typos happen all the time

The parking brake was a challange. Its up where you can hardly reach it. There most likely an easier way, but I couldn't find it.

if you wanna go ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the way back there for your reverse signal yes. But if you've got a wiring diagram that gives you a general idea of where the wire is you aren't running wires all over your car.

Ground wire question

Thanks TroysG. I haven't looked for the ecu and didn't realize it was under there. For some dumb reason I thought it was on the passanger's side kick panel. At any rate, I'm finding that when I use a wiring harness I have no ground, I didn't really realize this but by dumb luck I by-passed it and would you look at that my Avic has life. So here is my question what colors ground on the factory wire harness "gray?" and how do you test for ground.

best to create your own. that way you won't have a possible ground loop. sand down a piece of metal, use a self tapping screw, and a star washer to grab and hold.

The only thing I can think of is that I used a Metra kit and it is plastic not metal, so the stock system must ground through the metal bracket.

Just put my reverse camera in today and I suddenly have feedback coming out of my passenger rear speaker. Wtf!!!
It's a high pitched whine that gets louder as the rpms go up.
I didn't touch any of those wires near the speaker at all just the orange reverse wire
Any one got any ideas what's going on???

A cheap camera, or one poorly grounded is capable of introducing some noise into your system. Since it changes with engine RPMs, it's probably the bad ground.
