The 1000/1 does 1k @ 1.5 - 4 ohms and I believe the w6v2 comes in dual 4 ohm only. So you will end up wiring it at 4 ohms.

 

it's always recommended you go with a box that's made for the subs to get the best sound. just get a dual 4 ohm. the slash series has circuitry built into it where it makes the same power regardless of the load. Rather clever of them and Alpine to do that.

Wiring it for 2ohm wouldn't matter for that amp. It outputs the same from 1.5-4ohm. Certain other amps you can change the impedance on that sub. You'll have to look at what it can do at 2ohm vs 4ohm if you want to go with a different amp.

Pat - have you gone somewhere to listen to the subs? You should definitely listen to a few different subs if you haven't already. Depending on what kind of music you listen to and what kinda sound you like, you might find that you like neither of those subs. I personally didn't care for the sound of the JLs. I like a cleaner crisp bass, so I went with a 10" Diamond Audio Hex.

 

What ohm is good for a sub?
Im looking to buy the jl audio 500/1v2 amp with a 10" sub. Im just stuck on which sub to get with how many ohm's.
also what type of amp wiring kit should i buy?

jin...you should really open up your own new thread instead of hijacking other peoples. Everyone always asks what sub is good, but there really isn't an answer to that question. Same with regards to ohms, higher ohms will put less strain on an amp, but if you can only afford so much on an amp and need more power then you can run a lower impedance. Picking your speakers/subs is the most important part. If you like the sound then get that sub. Don't let the impedance of a sub steer you away from a sub. Once you pick your sub it will narrow down what amps you should be looking at.

This can help you get an idea of what ohms mean to subs, but in most cases it shouldn't be your main concern when deciding on a sub.

You can't wire 2 dual 4's at 2 ohms. You can wire it at 1 ohm or 4 ohms. You can wire higher, but it's not sensible.

Even if he could wire at 2 ohms, there is no point. The power supply is regulated on the 1000/1. It puts out 1k at 1.5 - 4 ohms so it makes absolutely no difference.

to answer quickly, there is no such thing as what ohm or impedence is good for a sub. the purpose is for comptability of wiring it to an amp at a certain impedence. with the 500/1 if you want to stick to jl, go with the w6. as for the wiring kit, i prefer kicker, unless you have money to drop on some Pear Cable.

 

I didn't really beat you, you actually said it first, maybe I just said it more clearly? Looking back at Troys previous post, he actually said it too and then came back and disregarded what he said lol.

I think he was thinking 1 w6 or 2 w3s, so he could wire the w6 2ohm, but you are right if he were to wire 2 x w3 4ohm dvc subs. Given the amp he can't wire for 1ohm anyways, and it would be pointless if he could since it would be the same amount of power.

The sub is dual 2 ohms I think. You'd wire at 4 ohms. If it's dual 4 ohms, you'll wire it at 2 ohms. With that amp, it won't matter. You'll get the same amount of power output since it has a regulated power supply.
