Ok so Ive heard this argument many times but ive never seen a true legit. answer. so heres the situation.... 2 12w3s? or 1 12w6? the amp will be the jl audio 500/1 for either one i decide. maybe you guys know something about the g35 coupe that i dont so please someone help me with this decision..

I have 1 10W6v2 - would I buy it again? no. it's alright but not for use in a 4080 box imo

 

I also have the 10w6v2 and have had nothing but problems with mine. Im running the 500/1 with it.

 

What kind of problems/issues are you guys having?

I have a 1000/1 on two 12W6v2's and have been very happy. I was an installer for a high end shop for ~3 years and have tried tons of different set-ups. JL has always been a favorite of mine for decent priced set-ups.

To the OP, I would go with the 2 - 12W3's. If you are going for a lot of output I would get a 1000/1. I know it is higher than they are rated for but I have found over the years JL subs do a lot better with 1.5-2x the power they are rated for. As long as you don't play them to the point of distortion you won't cause any problems. You are worse off going with a smaller amp that you have to turn up most or all of the way to get the output where you want. This causes the amp to dc the subs and you will blow subs all the time.

 

What would you use in the 4080 box ??

500/1 would be perfect for 2-10W3's. But 500/1 on 2-12W3's you will be running the amp maxed out.

 

I like the 4080 box a lot. It's a tough value to beat and very well made.

 

my problem with the W6 is that it just doesn't sound as nice as my IDMAX10, doesn't have the same output or the crisp sound. Also when I was having problems tuning my deck (i somehow locked myself out of some of my tuning options) I tuned the amp to something the sub couldn't handle (xover too high) and the foam surround began to tear. took me until I got the second one before I found out how to get to the settings on the deck before I got it sounding decent, with the proper settings on the amp

 

I been running a 500/1 with my 10W3's still i havd my G (3 three years) and I think it way more then enought bass. Most of the time my HU is set to "-5" Bass, and the fade is set to fwd 4 or 3. BTW I listen to Hip-Hop and I love bass.

 

I'd go with the single w6 over the two w3's. But personally I wouldn't go with JL...too played out. Only reason why I'm going with a JL sub is because it's oldschool, 15w6. Not many 15's needing only 500w and 1.5 cubes sealed that have an Fs of 16 Hz and can get loud if needed.

ID Max's are a great way to go, but if price is an issue I'd look into something with a TC9 motor. If you can find a soundsplinter RL-p, you'll be happy. Or find something with a 3HP motor, either a TC Sound TC 3HP, TC-3000, or a custom built sub using a 3HP motor. The TC Sounds OEM 10 is a great sub, and if you search audio forums you will find some for sale around 100 - 200 bucks each.

I used to be a big TC Sounds *****, owning an abundance of their products. What I have gathered from listening to 20+ different TC subs, including prototypes, is that they all get extremely low, sound great, don't need much enclosure space, and can get loud...also underrated.

If you can find some underhung subs that are or similar to the Audiomobile MASS 2012, I'd recommend it. Needs around 1 cu.ft. and 500w and they sound good. I had 3 of them, two of them were a custom pair with a copper pole piece and they sounded so smooth.

I'd take the TC subs over new JL anyday, there is no comparison. I've literally hady people tell me my setup sounded better and louder than a JL setup. I'm not trying to knock the company, they are great and I applaud their R&D. But there are some not-so-known manufacturers that would shed a new light on people.

If you really want a nice sub and have the coin, go with an Aura NS 10 or 12....but good luck trying to find them. Madisound.com had them, but not sure if they still carry them.

 

How does this setup sound for a 10" 4080 box.?

and JL Audio Slash v2 Series 500/1v2
would this be compatable with each other?

Would work just fine. The w6 is efficient and doesn't require much power.

 

Can you guys help me on what ohms does? What's the difference between a 2ohm, 4, ohm, or 8 ohm 10" W3?

Also what would sound better in a g coupe? 2 10" W3's or 2 10" W6's

 

2 w6's, hands down. more output, gets lower. theres a reason why its a level above the w3. The impedence (ohms) depends on what amp you will be running. You need to match that up. Once you decide what amp you are going to use, then you can decide which coil configuration works best.

 

Do If i where to run (1) JL 1000/1 Amp to the (2) 10" W6's how many ohms should I get?

And I would need to have a custom box made for these subs right?
