Anyone using the Pioneer AVIC-Z3?

Anyone who is using this HU, any feedback would be appreciated. I'm stuck between deciding on this one, a Kenwood DNX8120 and an Alpine W505.

TIA

I tihnk the W505 has the advantage because of the Imprint system. If it was out when I bought my 8019 I woulda jumped on that like a fat kid on a Smartie!!! mmm Smarties haha.

I don't think you'd be going wrong with any of these decks.

The only thing about the Alpine is that it requires the Blackbird unit for navigation and it aint cheap, nor easily obtainable. I want navigation to use HDD instead of a DVD which is why I'm not even considering the Eclipse line of products.

I've read consumer reviews on the Kenwood that aren't very favorable, more so than the AVIC. The last thing I want to do is to drop a lot of cash on an HU that will **** me off as I start getting familiar with it.

I haven't seen many other options for this type of HU aside from second and third tier manufacturers.

you can get the added navigation option, works same as the blackbird but not nearly as expensive
http://www.gibbysaudiovideo.com/alpi...rt-p-3374.html
(that's 279.99 cdn)

I used to work at gibby's I left cuz the owner is a douche, but he almost always has the lowest prices listed online on ANYTHING from TVs to blu-ray players, everything. I severely disliked him but his prices are damn good.

Got any links of screen caps of the navigation screens? Is it Garmin based? True usability is of the biggest concern for me.

What attracts me to the Alpine over the others is the user interface for iPod integration. Also that it displays color screens, which the older W205 did not and also does the album artwork

You are happy with the SQ? I've read a few reviews online from self proclaimed "audiophiles" that report otherwise. It would be nice if I could walk into a stereo shop and actually have them demo the unit but there doesn't seem to be any shops around that actually have one setup for a display. All I can go off are pics and reviews

sorry no screen caps but it works in the same method as the blackbird. sort of a garmin look to it. I haven't really played with them that much. I only got to install a handful of them and I usually only took it outside to make sure it got signal and found me.

Is there an external GPS antenna that needs to be roof mounted? Do GPS antennaes need to be roof mounted? If not, where have you placed them in the past?

I've put the majority of the antennas either at the front of the dash or in the rear deck.

I don't suppose you could put up some screen shots of the navi menus, maps and ipod control screens..preferably with album art displayed? I sure would appreciate it

I am not a supreme audiophile like some but I do know good sound

Sure its not an extreme SQ unit such as the Denon Z1 or Alpine F1 stuff but It is a great unit with time alignment and dual 13 band EQ built in
