Help me put my coupe back together :(

So I'm just about complete with my double-din conversion. However, I have this one trim piece left over and have no place where it came from.

It's an exact duplicate of the titanium piece found here:

Except its black. What the hell? I put the titanium version where it belongs, but where did this other one come from?

OK... part 2 in what hopefully won't become an ongoing series.

Underneath the spare tire is this soft foam material. What keeps this in place? It's been a month since I took it out and forgot how it was held in.

I think that foam thing just sits around... nothing really holds it in besides the weight of the spare tire.

Re: Help me put my coupe back together :(

it is the last thing to put on above the spare...
its purpose is so the trunk doesnt cave in when you put stuff there, above the spare...
you wanna see a pic??? (my car is at infiniti right now, but i will take pics tonight, let me know!)

Re: Help me put my coupe back together :(

It goes above the spare? Is it connected in anyway to the mat directly above it? Mine has several "holes" in it that clips to something. I don't recall ever having to fuss with that foam piece when i wanted to remove the spare. Please take pics! Thanks!

Re: Help me put my coupe back together :(

that thing is DEFINATELY held in place by the weight of the spare. It's just to provide shock absoption and whatnot for the spare hitting the metal chassi.

Re: Help me put my coupe back together :(

I get that, but there has to be something that holds that piece to the metal. Otherwise it would keep sliding out when you try to remove the spare.

Re: Help me put my coupe back together :(

What holds that piece to the metal IS the tire itself. The weight of the heavy tire holds it in place and then the screw that holds downt the tire keeps the tire from moving, which in turn will keep the insulation from moving. Mine works the same way - actually, everyone's G does. The insulation pad is not mounted - it just sits there dude.

Re: Help me put my coupe back together :(

So you have to re-set that piece every time you want to use the spare? Considering it's gonna slide right off when you remove the spare, unless you life it directly up? Interesting.
