Same problem over here...you'd think they'd have some kind of recall on this or something....

btw: what warranty covers this? I don't see any warranty that covers issues with stereo or headunits.

I dont understand why no one has attempted to fix this issue...I've been thinkin about it everyday and everytime the sound goes out, I just hit the side of the console and it works again. Couldn't this just be something lose within the headunit? I wouldn't assume it to be a major issue if all I have to do is hit the side of it to get it to work...

It has been fixed. It's been written about right here in this forum.

You have it backwards, my friend. If you buy a used unit, you need your head examined(the one on your shoulders, not the one in the dashboard of your car ). Buy a used unit, and there's a 50/50 chance that it already has the same problem as your old one, and about an 80-90% chance that if the new one doesn't already do it, that it will in the immediate future.

The best solution is just to try to fix the OEM one by taking it apart and hard-soldering the connections from the CD-player to the rest of the unit, or just trashing the OEM unit and upgrading to an aftermarket one. Personally, I choose to view my CD-player dying in my G35 as a blessing in disguise, because it motivated me to go out and buy an MP3 player and a tape-deck converter unit so that now I don't ever have to use CD's in my car. It's infinitely better than CD's and only cost about 80 bucks total for the MP3 player and tape-deck converter.
