Re: How to disable RDS names on radio?
Can't find anything on RDS in the book but it describes PTY or CAT (program type, category). Not sure if this is what you're talking about, but as you said it's obviously different than the SCV feature, my bad. (had a brain fart)..

Re: How to disable RDS on radio? (still no answer)
There are a couple of stations in town that have RDS info. I can't figure how to turn it off. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a way, this head unit is missing some other "normal" features... so far I've noticed you can't mute it or pause a CD, other than just turning the darn thing off.
Oh, and here's a couple of other reasons why you might want to turn off RDS:
1) I've heard some stations in Las Vegas use the RDS info to scroll advertisements across your radio display.
2) I don't know if it's supported here, but in Europe, RDS allows the radio to jump to traffic alerts, then jump back to the station you were on. Some pirate radio stations have figured out how to use RDS to make radios in their broadcast range switch over to the pirate station and stay there. On radios where RDS can't be disabled, the only way to get off that station is to drive out of range.

Re: How to disable RDS on radio? (still no answer)
I believe it has to do with the station that is broadcasting. In the SF Bay Area, I only get a few stations that display the "call sign" of the station, while most are old fashioned frequency. I have not found a way to disable the RDS feature, though.
