Installer in So.Cal area (LAX) G35C w/ DD&Eclipse

I'm planning on getting a G35C and I want to do the double-din with the eclipse nav unit. I've read over what is required, but I have a few questions:

1. Is there anyone in the So. Cal (LAX) area that is able to do this professionally?

2. Does the Eclipse unit stick out when the LCD is flipped out, or does it sit plush against the side?

3. Can I modify the steering wheel to remove those ghastly buttons? Or at least make them useful somehow?

Now, I am willing to do this myself, but I'm also paying for the car out of my own money (first car/first job). As such, I want to take every precaution. I do not like the stock Navi, else I'd pony up the money. I'm looking to do this before the 05's come out so I won't be treading in unknown territory. Any help is *greatly* appreciated.

Nick

I also want to put an eclipse AVN in my sedan. I did a little bit of research and found an Al&Eds in Marina del Rey that carries this unit and will do the installation. They even have the double din conversion unit and the price for the AVN seems ok. One of the guys told me that he has done numerous jobs on G35s. They even had one on their lot - although they were not doing double din conversion. If you are interested, I can probably find their number.

Ohh, sounds good. I don't really understand if they are or are not doing the double-din conversion? How much are they charging total for DDin + AVN + Install?

That's *ultra* close to me. Let me know.

Hey that's my g35 on their lot! (Al & Ed's Marina Del Rey) I was in an accident 4 and a half months ago and I still don't have my car back. I dropped off my car with them early June and they have been putting together since.. slowyly.. but surely.. i hope.

Chino (btw, my name is Luke.. maybe you can get an extra discount or something.. though I found it was kinda $)

Oh, I forgot to post their number since i happened to have it handy on my cell. It is 310-821-9988. I'd ask for Jesse. He's the manager and seems a lot easier to negotiate $ with.

This is what I was told:
Double din - $400
Installation - $200
AVN unit - $1,900

He quoted me that price after I told him that I would want to buy it myself and bring it to them for installation. I'm sure that they can go lower than that... and if both of us get it at the same time, we can get an even better discount.

The coupe that I saw there was "almost done" and that was about 2 weeks ago. The manager seems like a nice person to deal.

I'm very much interested. Of course I'm trying to get in a Group Buy with Reptilion (or is that his email?) Anyway, I'm not getting my car until Nov. I just like to plan waaaaaaay in advanced cuz this is going to be my baby for years to come.

Stan,

When they said "almost done" did they mean almost done planning on working on my car? The one thing I would say is that they quoted me 1-2 weeks initially... and its July 9th.. and i have a feeling it is not going to be done for another 3 weeks.. if that. If you are just going in for a DD install then I doubt you will run into a timing issue, but as far as a full system install.. it seems as though the more $ you pay the sooner you will get your car, and if you get a good deal, your car will be being worked on in the "background", as big $ clients come in.

I kinda get the impression that they are nice people and talk a good game, but business is business at the end of the day.

I don't want this to come off like im bashing them, cuz by no means am I. I just want to give a fellow g35 member a upfront FYI.

Nick,

I'm also not in a hurry to the the AVN. Since my work often requires me to drive to client's locations - having a Navi woul be really useful - but I'm thinking of leaving - so the questions is more : I know I want it, but I need to somehow justify myself that I NEED it. Anyways, email me when you get your car - as I might still be w/out it.
