CD changer swap possible?

Is it possible to swap just the CD Changer section of the OEM head unit or is it too intergrated to do an easy swap? Looking at swapping one out that has a the disc error problem with a working one. All other functions work, so I'm pretty sure the problem is isolated to just the change itself.

it's actually very easy -- do you already have a working unit? I have a 2k6 cd changer for sale...

basically if you follow the DDin threads (stickies) on how to disassemble the center console/dash, you'll find the unit comes out very easily and your replacement will go in just as easily

The CD changer is more than the CD changer however, it is a little more integrated -- i think it has the radio pre-amp/tuner, and some other things...

I am familiar with a full swap and had mine out to swap out a new circuit board when I thought this was the problem, but I am looking at swapping out just the cd changer part of the radio.
It sounds like the two(radio/cd) are basically intergrated into one unit to the point where it's too complexed. i was hoping maybe I could separate the radio from the disc drive and replace just the CD function.

why would you want to try to separated these two integrated parts when you can just buy the big metal box unit behind the circuit board (i don't care if you buy mine or someone elses)?? seems logical enough to me

glad you're familiar with everything, i'm sure you'll figure it out

My head unit has the typical issues of where the climate controls go out as well as the radio buttons, however, the radio still works along with the cd changer. I can get a working headunit for next to nothing out of another "G", except the cd changer does not work correctly. i was thinking of using the new headunit but swap out my changer with the non working one. I am planning to sell the car within the next few weeks and want to do it as cheap as possible. I have 1st generation G35, so yours will not work, regardless. Thanks!

If your gen G stereo is similar to mine...

Use the Front bezel and circuit board with the working changer etc -- perhaps that'll work -- just a little ribbon cable that integrates the faceplate/circuitboard with the CDchanger box on my gen -- wonder if it's the same for you ..

there are some changers cheap in the black market on this site...
