Sub/Amp questions

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone has done anything with the stock "sub." I noticed a while back that people were replacing it with free air subs, but it is very hard to find those. Any suggestions. I am thinking about a 5 channel amp, and I need to know what to do with the fifth channel. I wanted to upgrade the stock sub and run it there. Also, because this system has a factory "amp," are the Line outs still considered to be low line outs or are they high line outs because they are not rca? I am pretty new to this stuff. Thanks.

Re: Sub/Amp questions

Look to the left under "navigation". At the bottom there is a "search" function. This would probably lead to many many discussions about sub/amp combinations which could inform your decision making process.

Good Luck.

Re: Sub/Amp questions

Thanks bud, but that doesn't help me. I tried that. That is why I said that I am having trouble finding free air subs. I noticed that a while back people were buying them from Crutchfield, but I can't find them anymore. And I couldn't find anything about whether the wires from the stock amp harness are considered low level outputs or high level outputs. I know you can put a llc on them but I wanted to know if they were low level to start. Anyone else? Thanks

Re: Sub/Amp questions

I did a search at cardomain.com and quickly found the Infinity Kappa Perfect 12 VQ sub that is usable as free air, for $280 or so.

Here's the link
http://www.cardomain.com/shoptype/Subwoofers

To find more, check under each sub and see if free air is recommended.

Whew, I'm tired now. bye.

Re: Sub/Amp questions

In my opinion I wouldnt waste your time replacing the stock sub. I did exactly that with an 8" free air Kicker that I found on Ebay for $50. Once installed it did nothing but rattle the deck and the trunk. Sounded terrible.

Wound up installing all new speakers (JL Audio) a 4 channel amp and having a custom sub box made for the trunk powered by a JL 250/1 amp. Results are night and day

Re: Sub/Amp questions

Well, thanks. But that is a 12" sub and I need an 8". Those are more difficult to find. I will look further through that site and see if I can find one. Also, does anyone know the answer to the second part of my question? Thanks.

Re: Sub/Amp questions

This is for a sedan, not a coupe BTW.
