Just installed an amp and sub in my coupe
So I finished up a little install today and I thought I would share it. I put a 10" alpine type-r sub paired to an alpine M500 amp in a fiberglass box.
Here are the pictures.
The amp before I had connected the wires or screwed the amp to the platform. No pictures after I wired it but you can guess what that looks like. I made a MDF platform for it to sit on inside the spare tire. The amp comes up to almost the exact same height as the foam cone that used to sit there.
The box I got off ebay for $110 shipped. http://cgi.ebay.com/INFINITI-G35-CUS...%3A1|294%3A200
I was going to do a zenclosures box but i wanted to keep the option of lowering the rear seats to fit long items in the trunk. The box was originally covered in black vinyl and I stripped that off and covered it with speaker box carpet to better match the trunk. Overall the box is nice however there are a couple cons about it. 1. There are no speaker terminals so you either have to add your own of feed your wire through a hole and seal it (what I did) 2. When they molded these boxes, they didnt put an MDF ring behind the fiberglass on the face to screw the sub to. Its not a major problem, I just felt the need to have more material for the screws to bite into to better support this heavy sub, so I cut 8 small squares of MDF and epoxied them to the backside of the mounting face. No pictures but I think you get the idea.
Specs on amp and sub:
Alpine SWR-1042D
Power Handling
* Power Range: 200 - 500 Watts
* RMS Power Handling: 500 Watts
* Peak Power Handling: 1500 Watts
Alpine MRP-M500
CEA-2006 Power Ratings
* CEA-2006 Power Rating: (4 I? @14.4V Ƈ% THD+N, S/N: 75dBA, ref:1W into 4 I?) 300W x 1
RMS Power Ratings
* Per channel into 4 Ohms: (@ 14.4V Ƈ%THD+N, 20Hz - 200Hz) 300W x 1
* Per channel into 2 Ohms: (@ 14.4V Ƈ%THD+N, 20Hz - 200Hz) 500W x 1
(I have mine wired for 2 ohms)

Surprisingly clean and tight. I was very worried about the sound in such a strange fiberglass box but I was pleasantly surprised. They claim it to have 1.3 cubic feet of air space which I don't know if that is accurate but its definitely at least a cubic foot. The sub calls for .5-.8 cubic feet of air space, so its more than enough but I don't think its too much either because it sounds very nice.

thanks
I would say only about 3
that is actually a plan I have. It sounds good the way it is so I have left it alone for now
Its good for what I listen to (rock). I used to be into crazy sounds systems but now I am into more basic clean sounding and looking systems. 1 is more than enough for me. Great construction on the sub and great materials.
I would suggest adding some dampening material to the interior of the box to make it even better, a couple of coats of edead v3 would go a long way in controlling the flex and making the sub sound even better. Adding some ballast/bracing to take up some of the airspace would also be a good idea
