2006 Navigation System ?s

Aside from the map upgrade disk, is there a firmware upgrade that will speed this turtle up? It is soooo slow.

That and the lack of touch screen really blows.... but I've noticed some of the newest most expensive cars are moving away from touch screens...

None that i'm aware of. I agree though, sometimes i do get pissed when I hit okay and there is a 4 second delay before the next menu.

I just wish the damn OK button was on the other side of the control pad.

Exactly... that and it would be nice if you could enter say 7 addresses and have the system auto sort for the most efficient route vs. you having to find the most efficient way to input them and then still have the way points cancel out sometimes.....

I was really hoping they had a firmware upgrade to bring this thing into the present....

On a side note I notice your sig say OEM iPod interface... you get that from infiniti or??

I got it here. It's an OEM Nissan part, but adapted to work on a G35.

However, i went to install it last weekend and couldn't locate the sat cable hookup in the trunk. So at a standstill right now looking for someone who knows where it is in an '06.

Ok... I saw that one last night. Nice to know that is an option... wonder how it works with the iPhone?

RE: the cable in the trunk.. is this a cable that is coming from the head unit, just not being used or??

It comes out of the head unit and runs into the trunk where it would hook up to the satellite radio unit. It mounts back there.

The kit mounts there. So if you don't have sat radio, you just find the loose end of the cable and plug in. If you do have sat radio, you need another harness.

Prob is, i can't find the cable in my '06...which means i'll have to take the head unit out and plug it in the back.

I'm trying to find out if infiniti moved the cable in the '06, because me and another '06 owner can't seem to find it where it should be.

do you have SAT radio already?? I can tell you that my SAT box is located, facing the rear of the car, in the upper left under the carpeted cowling.

Hope this helps....

No i don't have Sat. But that does help. I'll have to take a peek for the cable in that area then. Thanks

I think I'm going to get the AV Electronics adapter to use the screen as a more convenient second screen for a double-din nav head unit, while still keeping the info screen available to check mileage and such.

Are you saying you're going to use an aftermarket nav system with the OEM screen??

Or are you saying that you are getting a double din nav system to replace the radio and still keeping the OEM screen for mileage checks/info center purposes.

That is a no-go on the firmware upgrade. The older ones using the 6 series disks have to upgrade the firmware with a separate DVD, but Navteq did away with that on the 7 series (which the 06's use)

But it sure is slow sometimes... I can hear it click and whirr sometimes LOL Kind of like the little trolls inside are running around making it go

One of my main pet peeves is when you search for somewhere and it doesn't use your current location to automatically filter the locations... ending up with a list of places 300 miles away

The Pioneer AVIC-F(& X) series have a video out to display what's on the screen on another monitor. With the AV Electronics adapter, I can display the AVIC's map on the OEM screen. Granted, since the AVIC-F Series are touchscreen, it'll be there for convenience of a better placed screen, instead of to control, but will still beat looking down that far for directions.

I'll be able to use the OEM screen for mileage info by switching the AV Electronics feed back to stock, and by turning it on, be able to view what's on the double din nav system up on the OEM screen.

Gotcha... so how does the avic hookup to the bose? I've gone over 10k into stereo stuff twice now and I'm not doing it again.... meaning I'm not touching the bose and for me it sounds good enough.

If I can achieve the same sound, plus a better nave unit that displays on the OEM screen I might be interested.

To confirm.. the BOSE radio and OEM sirrius would have to come out correct?
