Navi doesn't work after "professional" HU install!

I just got back from having my new HU installed and the guy at the audio place told me they "couldn't get the navigation to work but did not call me because they assumed I knew already" ...WTF?

The navi screen pops up when I start the car but goes back down...the screen is black and is not getting power. What do I do??

I need some help badly!

Where can I find the navi wiring diagrams? I just think this guy doesn't know what he's doing but I am freaking out right now!

At this point, I do not care about the navi voice...I just want the navi to power on.

What should I do? The installer said that he couldn't get the nav to work and it "must be tied into the factory HU"

Why me?! Help!

I have no idea what G you have but as a guess, here are the coupe Sevice Manuals. Should have all the diagrams you need. The shop most likely left something unplugged. I would start by verifying all connections are made first, you are gonna have to pretty much remove the panels and the HU to check continuity and voltages anyhow. General rule of thumb is start simple.

I appreciate all the help...the only is that I need the 06 sedan wiring diagram.

I am at the audio shop now and they are basically trying to wire the power to each harness that connected to the navi and go from there.

If anyone could post the schematics to the 06 I would def be indebted to you...

Thank you for any help!

Sounds like you are having the same issue I am, the screen will pop up and then go back down. I have been able to get mine to work twice in the week and a half I have owned my G, one of those was this morning.
I posted here and got an idea of what's wrong.

Everything eventually came out ok...the guy just needed to reset the nav simply by disengaging the grey wire harness. After that he just had to tweak the placement of the nav and ac control panels so the nav could come completely down.

jwrape, your nav probably isn't coming down all the way or something is blocking it from coming up completely. When that happens, the nav screen will not stay up/down...

The problem I am having now is the Alpine MRP 1000 watt amp is overheating after about five minutes at a time! LMAO...this install has been a nightmare and will forever be etched in memory!!!

Do I just return this amp to Crutchfield and get a PDX?

I had similar issues with a Kenwood Excelon 1200D sub amp I had. It was rated at 1 ohm stable but wired 1 ohm it would work for about an hour and the amp would die. Come on and not even go into protect mode, just power light on and nothing. On the 3rd amp they gave (I had given up on Kenwood but it was the best option at the time) I took the remote base **** wire that I had installed in the car for my other MTX amp and used the supplied Kenwood cable. Apparently not all cables are the same even though the **** worked for the first two. That fixed the issue, that or I got a good amp finally. Overheating that fast is a sign of something not hooked up correctly. If the shop did the install I would ask them about it and maybe they will replace. If not def back to Crutchfield.

I went out to listen in my garage and now I think the sub is blown

It still hits a little but it has a distinct crackle sound when the bass note hits a certain freq.

This is getting exhausting...

Yea might wanna ohm that out and if it is blown remove it from the system quickly as it can take the amp with it at any time. Can also shorten its life span. It may still work for the most part but the resistance on that sub can be changing drastically through the excursion, can be harmful for the amp.

Good call HL, thanks...

As for the sub, I guess it's back to the drawing board *sigh*

I really want to send the amp AND sub back to Crutchfield...has anyone returned an item that is broken (ie blown sub)?

The problems could be related. If it's within the return period, Crutchfield won't give you any trouble. I think they pay for return shipping even...
