I have the Pioneer AVIC-N1, i must say its a nice piece of equipment for the price, but i would wait a few more months until the updated DVD-nav disc comes out. Looks like pioneer is listening to those of us who bought it already and have requested updates/upgrade (they wont be free though)

The Eclipse AVN seems nice from what i've seen and read about it. My only questions are:
1) Can it be tricked into playing DVD movies while driving?
2) Does it have A/V inputs so that you can plug in a TV-Tuner or external input like Xbox, PS2, another DVD player, or DVD/CD Changers?
3) For those with the Automatic, when ejecting a disc, you cannot be in Park. The shifter stick blocks the LCD's ejecting path. Be aware of this. Its not a huge deal, but something worth noting and taken into consideration.

Yes you can trick it to play dvds while driving. All you need to do is ground the e brake wire. It has a video input for tv, ps2 etc...
You cant open the screen while in park.
I sold mine, went with the Kenwood 7015.. I am MUCH happier..

Do you get the same problems with the kenwood 7015 as with the avn?

Also, have you had any problems with the 7015?

I have the stock Nav and what happen if i just get the kenwood and double din dash kit
can i still get the stock nav working and with the voice thing?

 

here's what I've read over at SoundDomain about the AVN2454

pre-outs are only 0.8V. Most high end units like the Pioneer have a 5V preout. I believe the higher the output, the less work your amp will have in sending a clean signal to your speakers.

mp3 playback is poor on the unit. Files recorded at a SQ higher than 128 kbps will play poorly. MP3 song files need to have 8 characters or less or the unit will not recognize the file.

positive...people have said the navigation kicks *** on this unit.

i have the AVN...

everything is true but the 8 character name. it will still read the *.mp3 file, but the name of the file will be something like this 1234567~.mp3.

again, the file WILL still be recognized...

right now i think the kenwood unit 1-din pop-out unit (i believe its the 715 or 915 or something) is the way to go.... it even plays mp3's on dvd! The only player on the market that does this as of now

The double-din Kenwood DDX-7015 also plays mp3s on DVD. That was one of the main reasons I got it over the AVN-2454 (along w/ 5v preouts, more presets, etc.) I installed it along w/ the add-on touchscreen nav and love it.
