XM Radio on G35

Although I have been a BMW devotee for so long I forget, everytime I see a G35 Coupe, I think it's one of the sexiest cars on the road. Nevertheless, I'm having a hard time finding just what I want, which is a car in dealer inventory that has XM already installed. I do not want aftermarket stuff, it never works just right. And I'm not one who wants to spend years researching the perfect XM system. As I understand it all G35 coupes are pre-wired for XM. Am I right? And can the dealer install the Infiniti XM radio system?

The right answers here will probably close the deal for some sales guy.

It's pretty rare to find a car with satellite already installed I think. But the dealer can do it for you easily. The OEM sat radio is pretty decent. I have the XM tuner and I like the fact that I don't need wires and displays hanging around to use it.

It's a fairly simple installation that you can do yourself (If you have an 03.5 or newer). The wiring harness on the newer G35s takes care of most of the work. All that's left is putting the antenna somewhere (I put mine on the rear deck by the middle seat belt).

If you really want the dealer to install it for you, be prepared to pay a LOT. I think they wanted $831.00 for the tuner and installation.

Re: XM Radio on G35

1. All cars come with factory XM/Sirius prewired harness.

2. No cars come with factory XM or Sirius receiver units.

3. Any dealer will be happy to install either an XM or Sirius receiver. But you may not have any flexibility with regard to antenna placement. If the dealer goes "by the instructions", the big ugly antenna will be mounted on the roof. Also, IMHO, any total price over $450 is outrageous.

4. You can buy the receiver kit yourself, install it, and put the antenna wherever you want (rear deck, etc.) for $300. You can even buy smaller micro antennas.

I may have to dispute your #2 point there, re: no car coming from factory with xm/sirius. I got the 04 FX with Sirius, and since it was listed on the sticker as an option, I would assume that it came from the factory that way. Oh, and my 03 G35 did not come with the pre-wire harness, they didn't start doing that until the late 03 models. The G35 does have the sat button, but no prewire. I get antsy whenever someone uses, "all" or "no(ne)".

Re: XM Radio on G35

i have an 04 G35 Coupe. It came with Sirius Sattelite radio. All i had to do was call the 1800 Sirius # and activate it, i press the SAT button in the car and boom, satllite radio. It was a $400 option from the dealer. Came installed from factory.
So.. i have no idea what you guys are talking about that it doesnt come from the factory because it definitely does. There are like 4 buttons in your car, DISC, NAV, SAT, AM/FM

Re: XM Radio on G35

XM or Sirius is definitely a factory option. I'd love to get an aftermarket system, but then you have this additional piece of equipment hanging out there, and you can read the information at a more ergonic location. And if you guys knew my mechanical abilities, you would NEVER trust me to install anything short of a new tire stem cap.

Anyways thanks for the help. The sales guy I called was basically useless.

The factory unit is actually a clarion xm tuner. You can order it from the dealer then buy a micro antenna with the adaptor. Most stereo shops can install it for less than what the dealer charges. In the car it will all look stock and work with the factory SAT button.

Do you hear me?

Re: XM Radio on G35

I'll just echo what others have said here. On a prewired car, it's super simple to buy the parts and install the sat tuner, especially if you put the antenna in the rear deck. It works great there, and I wouldn't dream of putting that ugly wart on the exterior. So, I highly recommend just getting the car without SAT and add it afterwards.

Re: XM Radio on G35

I asked this question in another thread...so sorry for the quasi cross-post, but how do you know if you're prewired?

Re: XM Radio on G35

All 2004s are prewired. If you have a 2003, your Vin likely needs to end in a number 321894 (Sedan) or 210827 (Coupe) or later.

Just remove the plastic cover near the spare tire well. You'll see the white N-Bus harness there if your'e prewired. Can't miss it.
