For a pioneer d3, I checked ebay but kind of expensive...any suggestions?

 

I purchased the Metra 99-9999 kit and trimmed it down to size.
Most car audio shops carry them, as they are about as universal as they get.

I chose to inset instead of having the HU protrude, I prefer this way, but opinions vary.

They will likely charge you 5-10 bucks if anything.

I am getting my JDM and DD installed Friday can I install this trim piece after/anytime or does it have to be done same time as the DD install?

 

It depends on the head unit, some need the trim piece installed from behind, others can be put on from the front as well as from behind.

Worst case scenario, you have to remove the HU from the car - but all the harnesses should just unplug from the back, just follow the how-tos on this site.
