Re: Problem with my JL 500/5

I think you guys planning on 800 to 1,000 watts are going to need to make serious improvements to your electrical system, of face some real problems. 1,000 watts at 12 volts is an 83 amp load.

Would you like to suggest options? I am not familiar with beefing up the elec. system as I haven't gone past 500 watts before in any car. Instead of jacking BB's thread, how about we do it through PM's.. unless BB wants to hear it also?

Re: Problem with my JL 500/5

Leeno;

My response was really meant for both you and BB...as you're both looking at very high power systems. I don't really think it's hijacking a thread to bring up an issue responding directly to your thread that you guys may be overlooking. My only intent was to save you potential grief.

I really think the answer lies in how you plan to use your car and your system. You can go to a car show like SEMA, HIN or NOPI and see car after car with huge wattage stereos. But notice that they are all running off battery chargers plugged into 120 volt outlets in the floor! If you want 1,000 watts, and to be able to use the car and system on the road for extended periods, you'd better plan well. But even very large amplifiers don't use too much power at idle, so the problems will only arise at higher volume levels.

I think the ultimate solution is to be satisfied with 500-600 watts total, or think about getting some professional help in upgrading the electrical system. Maybe some of the professional installers on this list can suggest exactly what needs to be done to your G to support this kind of power. All I know, is that I'm having no problems running 600 watts, but lots of people have posted about serious problems when running 800 watts+.

Re: Problem with my JL 500/5

RacerX,

I will be going to a professional installer and will bring up this issue when it's time for the install. Thanks for your concern and bringing this issue up and about. It'll save me time and effort later, I'm sure.

John
