2 way vs 3 way 8" in door vs 7" or 6"5s
Im looking to put dynaudio esotecs in my car. looking for more midbass since my focal vrs can only drop to 80 or so. The 3 way set i was looking at would put an 8 in the door with the mid and tweet in the kicks. The other set would be obviously would be a woofer in the door and tweet in a door. Great installer putting in the equipment, so im not worried about that. Running off an HD 900/5. if i ran the three way, i would bi amp the esotecs, 100 to the woofer and 100 to mid and tweets. or i can get 150 x 2. the 7 or 6.5 component set obviously would be bridged at 150 x 2. any opinions. difference between either two or three way set would be approx 400 which includes labor, deaden the crap out of the door.
Why not 10's...these are the Dyn MW182's... For me though, definitely three way as i love a strong midbass....it's harder to tune...but it's also 10's in the doors...i can play these puppies all the way down to 20hz and go subless if i want...

i saw your install. Don helped you with it didnt he? Hes the one that will be installing mine. 10s sound great in the door, but im not sure if I have enough juice for it. plus, im not really good at tuning. One of my other debates is keeping it short sweet and simple, like a two way set. if i went with one 10 or 8 in the door, will I lost midbass punchiness?
yeah, don is the man...and if he is going to be installing, i really would be asking him these questions. I'm sure he's great at tuning so i wouldn't worry about that. Do you have a budget in mind? I think that will help you decide what you should do.
i do, hes taking care of me. Its more for me of..do I really want kickpanels? Can I just do an 8 or 7 in the door two way set and be happy? Thats why im looking for opinions. where are you btw? anyway I can listen to your car?

Good luck picking your components and post pics when it's done, would love to see how it comes out!
i'm in AZ...and currently the install is underway... I wouldn't do a larger mid and single tweeter, as the higher frequencies will be harder to play on an 8" mid before you get into "beaming" ... this would reguire the tweeter to play lower, but the md102 isn't made to be a low frequency extending tweeter.
If strong midbass, and "up front" bass, is your goal, then in my book you "must" go three way to have a dedicated driver to the 230-60 hz range....just my opinion though
but then again, if you don't want kicks...you really don't have any other option then other than 2 way...

i love the utopias! I had the three way set with xtant 302as bridged to each side. 300 watts of pure bliss. Wish i never sold that set
Im looking to get a stronger presence of mid to lower bass up front. Im asking don now what he would think a 7 in the door and the esotar tweet would sound like. any opinion? Im leaning towards the three way set now, im just wondering if 150 rms is enough to really get them going. Can the three way xover be biamped? Thanks for your help bud

im considering doing active as well. I met Don through DIY. Nice guy. I was shopping for subs because I thought It was blown. He offered to throw a few in my car and see which one i liked before i made a decision. Long story short, the sub was fine, didnt charge me a dime..and spent hours talking car audio. His blazer is SICK. He quoted pretty good deals for the three ways, 7 two ways or 6.5 two ways installed out the door. Im looking for better midbass upfront. I would love that three way..ill spend the money and just not pull my old UTOPIA move and sell it. But now that I have my 900/5, im not sure if I even have the juice to move it. So i may just got to the 7 or 6.5s. Opinion? sell amp or you think its enough?

as i said initially, i am still installing my stuff, but from what I understand, the Dyns love power...i am putting 150 to the 182's and 152's and 100 to the tweets.... so i would imagine that would be enough. 150 for the whole 3 way set? i'm not so sure...
this may sound naive... but after dealing with Don, I have 100% trust in what he says. I would pose the same questions to him, outline your end goals, budget, etc, and I guarantee you he won't steer you the wrong way... he would be the best person to talk to about getting your bang for your buck.
my opinion should only be weighed in at 10% of what you would weigh against Don's. If it was me though, I would go active and run tweets 50x2, mids 100x2, and midbass 150x2...but the expense of going active is greater than staying passive and depending on your goals, it may not be the best move for you.
if push comes to shove...try the 3 ways ( you already decided you want them, just looking for an excuse to spend less), and use the amp you have, and if you want more...go from there. But if you spend the money now on a new amp, you may find that you didn't need it in the first place, then you spent more money than you needed.
unless you had tons of cash laying around, this is what I would do if I was in your shoes...

I think ive settled on the three way. What im going to do is Run 100 x 2s to the eight, bandpass it somehow. and with the other 100 x 2 get some kind of passive xover for mids and tweets to kicks off the solo JL 900/5. I will evaluate from there and see if i want more juice. Im hoping I wont want a sub anymore lol. Option B since I have an extra xtant 302a laying around is 150 x 2 to 8s, and 75 x 2 to mids tweets passive. Option C is to pull my JL 300/2 off ebay and go 150 x 2 to subs, 150 x 2 to mids tweets passive.
